Paula Deen, Party Planner Extraordinaire

Quote
"The whole entire waiter staff was middle-aged black men, and they had on beautiful white jackets with a black bow tie.

I mean, it was really impressive. That restaurant represented a certain era in America…after the Civil War, during the Civil War, before the Civil War…It was not only black men, it was black women…I would say they were slaves."

Quote
The filer of the lawsuit, Lisa Jackson (the former general manager of a Savannah restaurant owned by Deen and her brother) claimed last year that the chef specifically expressed her desire for bevy of tap dancing "little n***ers" to send her brother off to married life with Southern flair.

Quote
“It’s just what they are — they’re jokes…most jokes are about Jewish people, rednecks, black folks…I can’t determine what offends another person.”

You do realize the Enquirer probably has better fact checking teams than...almost anybody, and they break stories more often than...almost anybody.

The Enquirer broke the John Edwards story, among others.

Anyway, the lawsuit and the allegations (including the "distinguished little tap-dancing gentlemen" quote) have been public record since last year.  The details coming from the Enquirer are just the stuff from her deposition.  And really, defending racist comments as being "just jokes" is the least surprising aspect of the whole story.

Now to be fair to Paula Deen, she's spent decades trying to kill white southerners with her cooking so this is just her showing her hatred of all races equally.

Also why has the term "black twitter" become so widely adopted?  Every black person I know on twitter uses it.

Is black twitter a hashtag, or just black people on twitter? Most of my twitter stuff is political, business, movies, and music based.

Black people on twitter. Usually the more ignorant or hood (wannabe) ones. Especially the ones from the niketalk forums.

A representative for Deen told the Associated Press, “She was born 60 years ago when America’s South had schools that were segregated, different bathrooms, different restaurants and Americans rode in different parts of the bus. This is not today.”

Don't blame her for being racist and out of touch, it's just that she's racist and out of touch. :yeshrug

My mom is upset Deen got fired, and is taking her side :dead

Personally I don't care either way. I found her comment more funny than offensive tbh, and it was 30 years ago...but still, I understand why Wal Mart/Food Network wouldn't want to be associated with that image.

I'm far more annoyed by Deen's "how come they say the n-word and don't get in trouble" defense. You don't see non-Polish people calling Polish people "polacks" nor can most straight people get away with calling a gay person a "cigarillo." I'm tired of people pretending like black people are the only people to turn a derogatory name into a term of endearment.

A lot of people may seem racist or sexist but just assume the lines for intending to be offensive are drawn differently.

In a way they are actually just non-racists who have trouble fitting in.

You are wrong, sir. "Pollacks" is not even the strongest slur that Polish people fling at each other. The worst one is "Polactwo" which is a hybrid between words "Poles" and "worms". "Polactwo" means the worst, it puts polish people on the same level as worms and other bugs.

And yes it is used only in Poland by other polish people.
And now people on the bore :patel

It's a shame the way she's handling this.  White people haven't had a really good role model since Ty Cobb.
