Director / Action Coordinator for Shaw Brothers Films.  Most famous for the 36th Chamber series.  I JUST saw him in Drunken Master 2 on Sunday

I'm really surprised that Chang Cheh doesn't get more love in hip hop circles as his themes of brotherhood and loyalty fit right in with many of the best aspirational hip hop tracks.  I get why RZA found the 36th Chamber and Wu Tang stuff so pivotal with his own inherent iconoclastic tendencies.  People know the Venoms films but they only know them because of the Venoms rather than the director who pulled them all together.

plus his movies are crazy violent and wildly fun

Now that I know more about CMA i find it funny how these guys spread the myth of Shaolin here to America. All the martial arts they're using in these movies are mixes of Hung Gar, Changquan, Govt. sponsored Wushu, various animal styles, and some Mizongyi for the 'drunken fist' type movies. Little did these cats know they would spawn endless documentaries about bald monks spreading chee to their necks and breaking spears on TV, or funny ass 'shaolin' temples all over the world.

Haha yup

I never thought a guy this badass could die.  He should have died in an epic mountaintop duel with a flaming ghost tiger, and that's only because the tiger cheated.

his impact on the Hong Kong film industry was seismic, he changed the world for the better(or at least, more awesome), and did more to popularize martial arts then almost any other many alive.  Good job sir.
