It looks like it's the same as the Windows + X menu, but with a shutdown command.

According to Mary Jo’s source, the Start button will be enabled—on the desktop only—by default. It will look just like the Start charm in Windows 8, and be positioned in the same place as it was in Windows 7, but will of course trigger the new Start screen when clicked, and not the legacy Start menu.

Keeping classic shell
Keep it for the start menu but 8.1 has native boot to desktop and use desktop wallpaper for start screen:

You can also make it show the apps view instead of the personalized look, like this:

Can also make it show desktop apps first on the list.

We do.

There's three of us in my family alone, thanks to my unpaid guerilla marketing tactics. :teehee

It could still be a lot better though. There's basically no organization (folders and sort options would be nice) and they've only recently added an option to filter out web results from the search box (so you can reliably launch apps by searching.)

does 8.1 have bluray support? I have a drive that can't even play movies due to shitty software.

I like Windows 8.  Using Chrome with the Twitter app off to the side is my favorite way to internet.
