It's a really weird, unique game. Without playing it, it's hard to tell you if you'll like it. If you've played cerebral, first-person puzzle games before, then it will probably be your kind of thing! Just don't expect much in the way of story/theming.

I will buy any of these currently on sale games for anyone who really wants to play them (not just add another notch to the backlog):

Elven Legacy Collection
Fantasy Wars
Unity of Command

Fantasy Wars/Elven Legacy - Hex based SRPG with mostly deterministic combat, no grinding allowed.

Unity of Command - Mixed tactical/operational level WW2 strategy game with tactical combat + supply lines and other higher level resource management.

They both have multiple difficulty levels and scoring.

Basically if you thought Xcom:EU was too easy/boring, these games will please you.

Unity of Command looks fun judging from the screenshots. I'll add it to my wishlist for now.

Edit: I've played many classic strategy games, but I'm not up for something too hardcore. Right now I'm playing Fire Emblem: Awakening and that will last me for another 50 hours. I also plan to give Xenonauts a go as soon as it's finished.

Xenonauts is great imo. They basically took classic Xcom, fixed most of the balance and UI issues, and added some new and interesting mechanics. Not on sale right now though.

I already have it since I backed the Kickstarter. Apparently it's still missing some content and it's kinda of buggy. I'll wait for it to reach the beta stage before I play it.

This sale seems better than the holiday sale (that one was pretty awful) but I still haven't bought anything for myself cause I own so many games.  :(

I did buy Ys 1&2 for a friend.

I think I'm going to skip on Ys right now. I mean I can get Ys on PSP and have it on the go anyway so the Steam sale doesn't really entice me too strongly.

I did pick up the PC version of Hotline Miami though. For $2.50 I'd have been a fool not to.

I bought Just Cause today just cause it cost about as much as a Pepsi.

Same but I picked up the collection. The DLC may not make the price hike worth it, but it includes Just Cause 1 which I've never played so for like $2.50 between Just Cause 1 and Just Cause 2 including the DLC it wasn't too bad a deal.

Also picked up Left 4 Dead 1/2 at $7 which isn't too shabby but not great.

I've been pretty good so far, only bought:
All the Skyrim DLC, because I need to play another hundred hours of that.
All the Saint's Row 3 DLC, because Witches and Weiners.
Surgeon Simulator 2013, because I guess I didn't really need that $3.39 anyway.
I gifted my friend who just joined Steam SR3, though, so my work is done.

Also sold a trading card for fifty cents. I think the card thing is pretty dumb, but if some random asshole wants to give me half a buck for a picture on the internet, I'll take it.

I don't understand the cards.  Are they like tickets where you win coupons/games?

and the entire Tomb Raider collection is on sale.  Underworld and Anniversary are 80 cents each.  1-5 are 62 cents each.

Bought the Witcher 2.

I've decided that from now on though, I'm buying everything as a gift and just dumping it in my inventory until I have fucking time to play it.  That way, if it's the next sale or whatever and I haven't fucking played it yet, I'm just gonna find someone to gift the fucking thing to.

You can combine cards to create badges which just show up on your profile. Or you can sell cards for money on the Steam market which goes into your Steam wallet. Also some badges are trade able for stuff like profile backrounds, emoticons, and coupons.

I was hoping to pick up Age of Empires II but $10 as the big sale price for a port of a 14 year old game feels like a ripoff. Oh well, guess I'll wait for the winter sale.

They are a curiosity at this point. Movement is very clunky, which makes both platforming and combat quite annoying. Anniversary, Legend and Underworld are more playable, look better and scratch the same itch.

I wouldn't say they "scratch the same itch", seeing as how the newer Tomb Raiders crib from Prince of Persia where the original game kinda blazed a trail with its awkward platforming puzzles. Whether or not you can tolerate that awkwardness to appreciate the more unique gameplay is something you'll have to answer for yourself.

Fwiw, I don't think any of the old Tomb Raiders are worth your time, for any price. The trio of newer ones definitely warrant a look, but if you want some decent PS1-era action adventure, just roll with the Soul Reaver games. Crystal Dynamics was kicking CORE's ass long before they showed them up on their own series.

Anniversary can't be bought separately for some reason so it's either Legend or Underworld. Leaning to Legend as the scenarios look cooler form a quick look.

I remember the second game having a cool Venedig level but I don't have enough nostalgia for these games to spend more than 30 minutes on the old old games.

Yeah I'm asking myself if keeping my pc on to let some steam games idle actually costs more money in power than I get from the sales of the cards. Still it is kinda addicting.

Underworld is a longer, but slightly buggier game than Legend. Other than that, they're very similar. If you care at all about the story, Legend kinda sets up Underworld, which picks up right where the first game left off.

Soul Reaver suffers from its age just as much as Tom Raider does. The controls are better, but the camera is shitty and there are plenty of annoying block pushing puzzles, and the combat was iffy as well. I would recommend watching the cutscenes on Youtube at this point. Soul Reaver 2 might still hold up though.

Man, when Tunnel Bear switches off i see the full horror of Japanese game prices - even under Steam sale conditions...

Black Ops 2 - a snip at $49.99 - down from the usual $99.99
Resident Evil 6 - a bargain at $29.99
The Witcher 2 is impulse buy levels at $14.99

etc etc....
