Did MS remove IP lock on X360 US store?
« on: June 29, 2013, 05:43:09 PM »
I just tried downloading Fable 3 (free for gold members) and it is no longer behind an IP lock.

I deleted Dead Rising 2 Case Zero and redownloaded it and the same is true here.

Can non US Bore members confirm if this is applied to all games now? Games on Demand in general was behind a giant IP cockblock before and the only way to download before this was via VPN.

EDIT: Resident Evil 4 is also downloading fine.

BOO YA!

Thanks for posting this, MCD.

I'd also wanted my free copy of Fable 3, and now I've got it. I was able to re-download it, and boot it.

Now I'm downloading the Just Cause 2 copy which I purchased in the big Spring Sale! Hopefully it will complete, and work, as well!

My suspicions is that this is a temporary oversight on MS' part. While I'd like to believe that "we're removing region constrictions!" is at the heart of this, there are too many publishers who have opted for region restrictions on their own titles... It seems impossible that MS could just tell them that they're not able to have it any longer.

A friend still can't download Case West but Fable 3 is still OK. Dunno, could be an oversight like you said.

Yes, Just Cause 2 stills fails at final download moment.

Still have to work out why my laptop doesn't want to share its IP connection, then try that stunt again with VPN.

It checks at point of purchase, and again when finishing the download.

Not sure why we have to jump through so many hoops to be allowed to spend money.

Fable 3 still downloaded for you, right chrono?

Maybe only some items are IP free or perhaps if you previously downloaded it, it is now glitched? just my 2 cents because I just downloaded all Gears of War 3 DLCs with no problem whatsoever. (they were IP locked before).

I can download pretty much everything from US and UK marketplace. It was not always like that, dunno what happened.

Buying can be a bit tricky sometimes but even that got better in the last year or so.Points have always worked though.

Yes, it's definitely easy to use VPN on my computer, then use Xbox.com through the VPN to make the purchase. That's easy. However, I have not yet been able to share my PC's Internet connection to use that same VPN to download to my Xbox. Working on it.

I don't get it. The links are to cheap games which are region free, but you'd still have to get that region's account and points or a cc specific to that region, right?
