How do you like to play games?

What I'm asking is, what conditions do you like to be in?  This came up in another thread and I'm wondering if it's just me that's weird, but I don't like gaming unless I'm at home in a relaxing atmosphere where I'm not gonna be bothered by other people.  To be fair, other people bother me by existing in the same geographical are as me, so your mileage may vary.  I also don't like squinting at small screens generally speaking, so handhelds are pretty much right out as ways to game for me.

Just thought it would be interesting to get people's input on this.

I generally only play games in my home. Even when it comes to handhelds. If I'm out and about I usually read a book or a magazine instead. Normally I prefer to play without company, but gaming with others is  fun every once in a while. I had some friends over for beers and Wii U this week and playing Nintendo Land with more people can be great.

At home, leaning back in my chair or sitting on the bed. Headphones optional. Some games are perfect for podcasts. FTL and other rogue-like likes, multiplayer anything, racing games, etc. They help to set myself a time limit as well.
Handhelds I usually play in bed. I don't bring them with me unless I have a long commute. If it's less than 30 minutes I'd rather listen to music or read something.

Well I hate handhelds, so I don't play those. Never been much of a pc gamer as well pcs never seem to work with me. Much simpler on a console where I just stick in a game and go to town. I play Civilization/Sim games and MMOs on pcs, because well that's where they are.

I generally like to play my games relaxed on a coach or a comfy chair. I don't think I can play any other way. So basically, that's why I prefer consoles to all other things. I don't do the headphones thing either, because sitting there playing a game with things in my ear isn't to me very comfortable.

I don't really like playing games with other people. Co-op games aren't my thing, because I like to go at my own pace and well I always feel like I need to do very good or whatever so that my partner dosen't feel like I'm shitty. When it comes to single player games, I don't like having other people around, because I just like to I guess soak up the game by myself. People also just annoy me with their "advice" or general commits.

I do like playing competitive multiplayer games and mmos though and I mostly play those accompanied by a podcast. I mean when a new episode of something I like comes out, my first instinct is to play on online game while I listen to it.

Yeah, it's difficult to find a comfortable position, but if you can make it work with some additional pillows it's bliss.

Do not, ever, try to hold a handheld above your face for extended periods of time, it fucks up your wrists...

When I was younger I'd play handhelds literally everywhere.  The original Gameboy was always holstered in a belt case at my hip.   

Now I pretty much just play at home, and that includes consoles, PC, and handhelds.  Occasionally I bring handhelds with me (trips and to work on those rare days when there's downtime).  I usually play consoles on a 22" ASUS 1080P LED monitor that sits right next to my 40" HDTV, mainly because my wife is always watching something.  It doesn't bother me at all though, in fact I prefer it.  PC gaming is done on another ASUS LED 1080P  23" monitor.  Oddly enough I prefer gaming at a desk in an office chair over sitting on the couch.  My apartment is small and my PC/desk takes up what would be the dining area -we ditched the table- so it's easy for me to move the office chairs anywhere.

I can't ever get comfortable enough while lying down to play games. I prefer to be sitting upright. For a while I had everything rigged in the living room, with a crazy long VGA cable running through the office wall to the TV so I could play PC games. My living situation has since changed, so I went out and bought a 24" TV/Monitor and now have everything installed in the middle room/office now. Years ago I dropped the dollars to get myself one of those fancy office chairs with awesome lumbar support and that hump on the seat edge that keeps the circulation in your legs going. It's getting kind of worn out now, so within the next 6 months I'll probably try and get another. I like my new setup fine. I can just use the headphone jack on the Monitor/TV and crank shit up without bothering anyone.  I don't ever eat while gaming, but I do like a frosty beverage to be close by.

I like handhelds (well, I like pretty much anything that is shiny and makes electronic noises), but I never really play them. I always buy them and then end up selling them off a few months later, barely used. I don't travel much, and if I'm sitting around the house I'd just rather play PC or console games. Same with tablet games. I used to buy a lot whenever they'd go on sale, but don't ever spend more than five or ten minutes with any of them.

Sprawled out across my leather couch playing console games on a 50" plasma TV. Occasionally I'll play handhelds in my bed, or PC games, but consoles (retro ones at that) are my primary means of play. Also play arcade games when I get the chance.

Saturday and Sunday afternoons, or really slow weeknights, are my ideal times to play.

Preferred: Xbox and my 40" Bravia in the living room, with the Kinect, surprisingly. Stereo up is great, though headphones give me better spacial awareness.

Actual: iPad or iPhone time wasters with the sound off.
