I saw the gaf thread and thought "that's one sick joke" and then saw it was 11 pages...

He did great work and brought more joy to more people than most of us ever will. I'm sad I only discovered him with Arrow Pointing Down, the first podcast he did with Jeff as giantbomb was forming. I wish I followed Hot Spot back in the day. I hope everyone around him is doing okay

Just brutal. Still can't believe it.

I really loved Giant Bomb. Once old school game journalism died they were the only guys who I could follow anymore. It was just a different approach to videogames. It wasn't these wise old nerds telling you to play weird quirky games. It was like jaded dudes my age who felt vaguely embarrassed about still playing videogames so much at this age but still did and had a sense of proportion and humour.

Ryan wasn't a great "journalist" but he was a really great moderator on the bombcast. I almost always skipped the ones he was missing from because they didn't flow right without him.

He will be missed.

Seeing as he posted this and deleted it just hours before his wife sent her brother to wake him, I'm wondering if it had anything to do with it.

As someone who has dealt with drug abusers in his life. I'm pretty sure that was not the case. Claritin is used to add to the effect of opiates by making them last longer. My mother used to do it with her Lortabs. I think the timing is questionable and when they don't release a cause of death it's even more so questionable. He also was a very heavy drinker, which might have caused him liver issues. Which coupled with the Lortab can accelerate liver failure which with his body size could have shocked his whole system.

And looking at his wife's post on twitter she doesn't seem very emotional at all about this, what's up with that?

As I mentioned earlier, I'm pretty sure he started wearing an oxygen mask in his sleep recently. Dunno how portable such a setup is. I imagine not very. I can see that being a contributing factor as well, but honestly, I don't really feel like speculating. "Public" deaths are weird...

As for his wife. What do you expect? All caps and spamming exclamation marks? It's very easy to seem calm and collected in text.

I don't really care how he died and its not like the family has to say anything. He was way overweight. This was a dude who when they spent a day demo'ing the kinect was so winded and out of shape that he missed work afterwards because he threw his back out. He was not a healthy guy which means it could have been lots of stuff or stuff related to dealing with his unhealthiness.

Depends on the size of the tank, but its more portable than you'd think.

It wasn't oxygen, it was just a CPAP machine, which are extremely portable.
