My two worries about sandbox games:

1. They always seem to be clunkier and less polished than other games. MMOs already have an issue with polish to begin with.
2. MMO players are some of the worst people in the gaming community. Great people exist within the MMO community, but there is a lot of outright toxic folk who make themselves the head and face of the community. MOBA players are made up of ex-WoW trolls. Now think of that sort of community in a game world where they can do anything they want. I don't want to be in that world.

So you have to start putting in mechanics to limit assholes. Then it becomes less sandboxy, but more tolerable. It's a delicate thing to balance.

I am curious to see the actual game and how they handle these problems.

Though this will be their best chance to better realize it in-game.

They should have killed the giant WoW shoulders on that new art though. Come on now.

I hope the ingame art isn't cartoony and they are sticking to a somewhat realistic look.

Having a sandbox fantasy game is exactly what this genre needs. More dicking around, more community.

That's got a style to it that is pretty old school fantasy, but it kind of lacks something that makes me think of the game itself rather than old school fantasy art.

See the real difference between GW2 art and EQ art is that ANet's ability to transfer their concept art into in-game visuals is top notch. However, like I said, this will be SoE's chance to perhaps do that themselves. (As long as its not like that revision shot.) I actually think going with a Conan the Barbarian look for the game would work well with the sandbox nature. EQ may be too colorful for that though.

The thing is, everyone's got those now. Even the pencil and paper RPGs like Pathfinder are going that route. Oh, wait, no, it's because it came from pencil and paper RPGs with Warhammer.
