I have, he's just not one of my favorites. I honestly prefer most modern guys by a hair just because i think humor doesn't have much lasting power.

my own tastes lean towards dry humor, so I love early Woody Allen, Bob Newhart, Hannibal Buress, Michael Che, Wyatt Cenac.

Micheal Che is going to be a goddamn superstar so I highly recommend you all hop onto that bandwagon now while you can still see him on the cheap.  Dude will straight up do 4 sets a night in New York racing from club to club. He's that in demand and he's only be doing comedy for literally  two or three years.

I try to see live comedy 5 or 6 times a year. Watching televised comedy doesn't do shit for me, very rarely do the comedians overcome the medium.

Some of the best sets I've ever seen were by feature acts (middles) no one has ever heard of.

For instance, this dude was a middle at a show in Columbus about three years and just destroyed the room.

I know what you mean. I was always really sceptical of stand-up until I started going to a pub in Kilburn on Tuesday nights where they'd have three or four acts for a fiver. Great way to sink a few pints and a really good vibe.

I feel the same way about music. A lot of great music is local stuff and small bands that either never will hit it big or had a shot at the big time but never quite made it.


I remember watching Brian Regan who is considered a fairly b level career standup. And on TV you may never find him funny. But something about being there live, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen.


As far as comedians there are tons of good/great ones out there. Lots of young relevant good people.

I tend to like all the classic guys but one guy I would toss out is Colin Quinn who often gets overshadowed but every time I hear him do standup he's on point.
