Fallout: New Vegas is pretty fun, especially after the heavy handed, rail-tacular experience that was TLOU.  Just having fun wandering the desert, killing shit.  Sort of like Moses, but with more guns and fewer Hebrews.

I remembered one of my complaints from my initial playthrough of it however many years ago:  the crafting crap.  Blah blah blah, this makes it feel more like an actual post-apocalyptic survival game.  Whatever.  It's just not FUN.

Goodsprings loves me, because I helped that idiot out.  Whatever, you're only gonna be on my good side as long you're useful to me!  Piss me off and I'll kill everyone with a lead pipe.  I've done it before.

Just when I started to find Fallout: New Vegas fun, it won't load any longer.  Fuck Obisidian, fuck Bethesda, and fuck Steam.  I am too lazy and spoiled to be assed to fuck around looking for a solution to this horseshit, so onto the next day we go!

Random number generator apparently has decided that the only games that will be played shall feature Zombies.  Today, we play Dead Island.  Onward.

So, Dead Island is a thing.  Game would probably be a lot more fun in co-op, but whatevs.  Running around beating zombies to death with various bladed and blunt implements never gets old, which is why I guess there are approximately a bajillion games that feature it, blah blah blah.  Finding cool new weapons and upgrading them is fun, and it has a Borderlands 2-esque skill tree thingy.  Game is pretty fun.

Ugh, also- seriously, fuck Bethesda and Obsidian for releasing shut a shitty, buggy ass fucking product.  It was working FINE earlier, I just tried switching the Fallout NV Launcher's compatibility mode to XP service pack 3 and it STILL fucking freezes when you try to load a goddamn mothefucking save.

THIS IS WHY OBSIDIAN SUCKS SOUR ASS, PEOPLE.  FUCK THEM IN THEIR EARS UNTIL THEY DIE.

So, Analogue is actually not terrible, just kind of embarrassing.  It's really good to have on while you're browsing /fucking around, because you can "play" it every five minutes or whatever.

i tought the premise was really cool but the plot never goes anywhere

Fixed my F:NV issue, and I'm probably gonna play a lot of that today as I'm genuinely having fun.

I brought law to Goodsprings today.  Sadly, it wasn't without consequences... RIP, Easy Pete.  I didn't even use your dynamite, and you're dead anyway.  I'll wear your hat in memoriam... until I find a better hat, anyway.

Now, it's time to bring the law to Primm.

I put 20 hours into NV before hanging it up. Some of those mods could really help liven up the combat. Maybe I'll give it another go since my new computer is so much better than my last.

I brought the law to Primm today.  It wasn't the law they wanted, but it was the law they needed.  A stern man named Meyers, unjustly imprisoned for ignoring some of the "formalities" of law, like paper work, or due process.  He'll whip those fucking swine into shape, for sure.

Now I walk East, after those who shot me.  I won't be needing to bring any law to Nipton.  :holeup

Yeah, I don't like the blanket rules for stealing in any of the games. And if you accidentally steal something, it makes all instances of that item appear as stolen in your inventory

Also, download an auto lock picking mod and an auto hacking mod. Those mini games are only fun for about five minutes.

I don't actually hate them, they just ceased to be fun after dozens of times doing them. They're always the same in every Bethesda game, the locks just look different. Roleplaying-wise, it'd be pretty funny if they gave you the option of just smashing shit open to get what's inside - the penalty could be less loot, or some things might get broken and require repair. I'd smash open everything, because fuck patience.

Today, I brought the law to Novac and Boulder City.  In Novac, I had to break into an office and pick the lock on a safe to find proof of slavery, but the ends justify the means.  I sent a right bitch to her death, and have gained a pack mule and bullet sponge in return.  In Boulder City, I was called upon to negotiate a peace settlement between the very hired goons who helped capture me and almost killed me and the NCR.  I convinced the ruffians to release their captives in return for safe passage, but the NCR higher ups ordered the Khans to be killed anyway.  The commanding officer was conflicted, but I assured him that he was doing the right thing.  That will teach that gang to try to kill me.  Well, it would if they weren't dead.

On to New Vegas.

Fallout New Vegas is one of my fav RPGs. I really liked the open ended sci-fi themed quests/main story, combat was pretty fun, and interesting locations to poke around. Maybe the main story beef between the NCR and Legion was somewhat overplayed and silly, but overall I liked it. Most of the DLC was pretty good too.

The reputation system is really cool.  The crafting is all bullshit, but whatever, it can largely just be ignored if you play on pussy difficulty settings.  The writing is noticeably better than Fallout 3.

It is way glitchier than Fallout 3 was for me, though.  Like, I basically never had any issues with Fallout 3 other than a random freeze here or there- I have had several seriously annoying issues with F:NV.

I'm stoked for whatever the end result of Obsidian's kickstarter is now, for sure.  Also- was Alpha Protocol playable or just a big fucking mess?

I don't remember any bugs on PC. YMMV tho :yeshrug

It's seriously flawed as far as gameplay systems go though. Basically, it's all fine and dandy if you stick to stealth and/or play with a pistol. The pistol ability Chain Shot (?) is very broken. It slows down time so you can eventually empty and entire magazine into people's heads, which is handy during boss fights. And stealth is just - stealth. It's competent provided you spec into it and get the ability that gives you a radar.

Other weaponry (assault rifles, shotguns, uzis, etc.) is just dumb because you roll dice on wether you hit or not, no matter what the reticule is telling your eyes. You have to invest points for actual accuracy. This was purportedly done on Sega's request. I want to believe that to be true, but you never know. If it's true Obsidian buckled, so they're to blame one way or another.

I really liked the narrative or rather the reputation system and how it tied into it. You have to actually read people and then decide wether or not you want to give in to the urge to antagonize them. Dialogue choices are timed too, so you can't sit there and puzzle it out for an eternity. If you do end up playing it, try to go back and forth between the different bases. You can do everything in one city, then move to the other, but it's more interesting if you follow up on leads immediately.

Alpha Protocol was great and I didn't encounter any serious bugs. The stealth system is very gamey and you are invisible unless you're standing in the enemies' sight cone.

Alpha Brotocol is AMAZING. If you are enjoying New Vegas, I recommend you give it a try. The gameplay is terrible (I just focused on stealth + judo), but the narrative branching is some serious double-next level 15-years-ahead of its time shit. It's < $5 almost all the time during Steam Sales.

Funny thing is that it probably would've been better received without the action gameplay.  Walking Dead kinda cribbed a lot of the narrative gameplay and ideas.

Still, AP does interesting stuff where your play style affects the narrative.  Definitely worth playing through multiple times, just play it on easy.

Yep, stealth/pistol is definitely the way to go in AP.

I can't remember the combination but there's some skill setup with pistol+stealth+cooldown reset that makes some of the bosses trivial. Really one of my favourite games ever, not even counting Steve Heck

I thought you were playing your GAME backlog

Well, half an hour and no money spent seems like a small investment to figure out that MOBAs are not for me.

I totally forgot to mention, but I'm playing crap tons of puzzle and dragon every day during this nonsense too.

Did you get the DLC? I LOVED Honest Hearts, tho you're probably more of an Old World Blues guy.
I liked Honest Hearts more than Old World Blues as well. OWB was a fun 'dungeon romp' but it was a little too crazy to take seriously.

Tried to play some Rise of the Triad.  Reduced mouse sensitivity and picked the 2nd slowest character... still wanted to barf after like only 20 minutes.  This is the only time I've ever gotten motion sickness from a game, including playing the old RotT when I was younger.  Shit, I got old.  :fbm

Even when I was in my 20s, I could play Doom2 and Heretic for over 6 hours without getting pukey, but RotT was killing me guts after only 2 hours. I'd probably puke immediately if I played it now.

I get terrible motion sickness if I try reading/playing games in a car but never have experienced it in a game - neither Mirror's Edge, nor Portal, nor any of those old hyperkinetic arena FPS games.
