Help me so I don't have to buy SR4 on ps3
« on: August 03, 2013, 02:40:50 PM »
I really want SR4 on pc, but my computer has always struggled with SRTT. The recommended settings are high iirc, but when I play it, it chugs. I put it on low, with ZERO shadows/low lighting;etc and it's the same frame rate. Absolutely ridiculous.

SRTT is a shit port if you have a dual core. I can play Skyrim on high, and more all games on games on high or medium despite this laptop being 5 years old (yes I know it's time to get a new one but still).

I can play GTAIV at a high frame rate than this.

What the fuck gives?

SR3's PC port isn't the best. It's OK but not amazing. Even I experience performance problems occasionally. SR4's port is said to be much better.

But whatevs. Get it on whatever platform you want.

You can save $15 on the PC vs. console version if you've already got SRTT on Steam, so I imagine that's one reason Himuro is trying to get it for pc?  Dunno.

I didn't have issues with SRTT on my computer, and it's a late 2010 build that was fairly middle of the road at that time, so basically it's not awesome.  What's yer specs, breh?

I have a similar mobile card and I commonly get this problem. Follow these instructions and let me know if you are still getting problems.

1.Right click your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel
2. Under 3D settings select Manage 3D Settings
3.Go to the program settings tab
4.Click Add and find your Saints Row the Third executable (located in your steam install directory's steamapps/common/saints row the third ). It should be called saintsrowthethird or saintsrowthethird_dx11

5. Under Select the preferred graphics processor for this program select 'High Performance NVIDIA Processor'

6. Click Apply.

I have an NVIDIA 525m and after doing this it brings up the frame right quite a bit. Keep in mind that turning on shadows, ambient occlusion, and High Lights will drop the frame rate a bit as well.

Select preferred graphics processor is gone from my nvidia control panel :what

Well I forced it to maximize graphic power. Hopefully SR4 is better optimized for dual cores.

What is a good laptop that isn't strictly a gaming laptop but COULD be used for gaming? I mostly want a new more powerful one because of work (graphic design) which needs more than a dual core these days to get great results. :(

Build a desktop. Way more cost effective than trying to do all of that shit on a laptop.

Having said that, what's your price range?  What form factor do you prefer?

$800 or less.  :holeup

Let me see what I can do.  By form factor, I basically meant how big do you want the damn screen to be.

This one has all that shit but with a Intel® HD graphics 4600   . It costs $874.95.

Need compare  Intel® HD graphics 4600 to NVIDIA GeForce GT 740M Graphics. Positive that Geforce will win.

That doesn't look bad; I would ask someone who has some experience with HP laptops before pulling the trigger on it, though.  I've only ever owned Dell laptops, and I've only ever really used them for non-gaming stuff.

edit: it will, for sure.  The 4600 is "ok" but not really gonna cut it for serious gaming.

I could subtract from that price if I deal with 1366x768 but MAN, it's 1366X768. AUGH.

While I know it'd be cheaper to get a desktop, I can be assed to carry one around these days and in the near future I may be moving around a lot. I was keen on making a desktop until a few months ago until this opportunity came up.

Dude.

Quote
According to benchmarks in 3DMark 11, the HD Graphics 4600 is up to 60 percent faster than the previous HD 4000. In our gaming benchmarks, however, the improvement was only about 30 - 40 percent. This performance boost is achieved by architectural improvements and an increased number of execution units: The HD 4600 (also known as "GT2") integrates 20 EUs, compared to only 16 EUs for the old HD 4000. Thus, the HD 4600 not only matches some dedicated GPUs such as the GeForce GT 620M/630M, but also competes with integrated AMD GPUs like the Radeon HD 7660G.

and it's much cheaper too.

Try it out, but I have a 4000 in my Dell laptop and it's, uh, not very impressive.  Runs Path of Exile ok, but everything is a jaggy, ugly mess from hell.

At the same resolution, the gtx740m handles Battlefield much better and they're on about the same graphical settings. Better lighting/shadows but that could just be the map. I wanted to find the same map.

The geforce should be able to run on high on lower displays. I mostly want a higher display for my jerb. Fuck 1366x768 when doing graphic design, holy shit. :pacspit

Try to find the old triumph laptop thread. There was one acer laptop with a decent gtx card for less than 800

I'm pretty sure Himu's overriding concern is better resolution than 1366x768, and none of the ones from that thread were better than that if I recall correctly.

Performance

The gaming performance of the GeForce GT 730M equipped with DDR3 VRAM depends on the clockrate and should be on the same level or slightly above an average GT 640M/GT 645M. Therefore, demanding games like Battlefield 3, Hitman: Absolution, or Far Cry 3 are playable in 1366x768 resolution and medium settings. Less demanding games like Dishonored can be played fluently with maxed out settings at full HD resolution settings.
