Denver hadn't faced a top 10 defense all season though, right? How the fuck were they gonna be prepared for Seattle? I always thought the Seahawks would win, just didn't think it would be an out and out slaughter.

That apparently didn't matter to a lot of the national sports media.

No Broncos fans at our party last night, but my one friend who is a diehard Niners fan went home at some point during the first quarter. He said it was too loud for his little boy, but his wife (who stayed and cheered on the Hawks) just said he was being grumpy.

Yeah, I have too. They probably would've beat the Broncos in the Super Bowl, but they didn't make it to the Super Bowl. Stop living in a world of "if."

They've been replaying the Seattle radio broadcast of the Super Bowl this morning from 6-9. It's awesome.

I like how the poll here was tied or close to it at the start of the game, then grew in Seattle's favor as the game went on.

People could also vote for both teams. At one point only 11 people had voted, but it was tied 11-11.

Inevitably, close watchers of the broadcast noticed that neither Flea’s bass nor Josh Klinghoffer’s guitar appeared to be plugged in to anything. It was first pointed out by Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid, who tweeted “That guitar is plugged into NOTHING” during the show. Photo evidence seemed to back him up, and though there was a stirring online debate about whether or not the Peppers could have been using wireless transmitters, Reid set the world straight. “There were NO wireless packs,” he tweeted. “Which would be a nightmare given the huge amount of wireless channels. They leave NOTHING to chance.”

William Clay Ford Sr., the owner of the Detroit Lions, has died at the age of 88.

Ford was the last surviving grandson of Henry Ford, the founder of Ford Motor Co., and has owned the Lions since November 1963.
http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/10578119/william-clay-ford-sr-detroit-lions-owner-dies-88

RIP

However it's worth noting Sr. was quite a fan of Millen, who he considered a son; he's the reason Millen stayed as GM for so long. Ford Jr. wanted him gone a couple years earlier, and Ford Jr. also pulled the plug on Schwartz. So I have far more confidence in the son, and the future of the team.

The Baltimore Sun reports the Raiders are expected to sign free agent T/G Rodger Saffold "for roughly $8 million per year."
The Raiders must value Saffold over in-house free agent LT Jared Veldheer, as the report states the Cardinals are expected to sign Veldheer for "between $7 million and $7.5 million." Saffold has generally been stretched as a starting left tackle in the league. He's fared better at right tackle and most productively at guard. Versatile but injury prone, Saffold would certainly be locked into the blindside in Oakland if they're going to shell out that kind of money.

If this turns out to be true, Reggie needs to go. Would be a shit move letting Veldheer walk for that cheap and then overpaying for the injury prone Saffold.

Raiders signed OL Rodger Saffold for 5 years, $42.5 million ($21m guaranteed). Reiff, Waddle combine for 7 years, 9.5mil (6.5 guaranteed)

Lions had one of the best o lines in the league. The trenches are important, as is securing a great lineman...but you can find that talent a lot cheaper.

Couldn't stand his smug ass in college but he's obviously a solid WR. I don't expect he'll sign here so no hard feelings.

I'd prefer Emmanuel Sanders (Steelers) or Nicks (Giants). Really hope we don't use the #10 pick on a WR unless Sammy Watkins magically falls to us.

Golden Tate to the Lions, 5 years 31mil

I heard about it late while driving home. Immediately thought "can't wait to get home and troll Gundam!" But once I got home I realized I needed to shovel ten inches of snow, and as I shoveled I slowly began to remember why the Lions are the Lions and the Seahawks are the Seahawks. It's not a bad deal but if we were a decent organization we wouldn't have to sign a #3 WR as our #2 - we could have drafted a #2 a couple years ago. Instead we drafted basket base Titus Young who will never play in the NFL again, and Ryan Broyles who tore one ACL in college and the other in the pros, and has never been healthy for us.

So instead of pulling out the :umad for Gundam I'll just shake his hand firmly and walk away.

Good decision, bro.

I wish we had re-signed Tate, but I'm not devastated or anything. Dude got his payday, we'll see how it turns out for him. It would be interesting to see how much money he would've got with the same performance on a 10-6 Seahawks team who got knocked out in the 2nd round. Also, keep Tate away from your doughnut shops.

Curious if we'll get Jared Allen and/or Jermichael Finley. Curious if either of those are good ideas.

:rejoice

Man, I can't wait for the draft. A lot of fans want to trade up and get Sammy Watkins, but I honestly think that would be a waste. We need a WR sure, but why trade up considering how strong the WR class is this year? Watkins is definitely the best WR available but I don't understand the logic of trading up to get him. We should be fine getting a solid WR in the second or third round, considering we have Golden Tate now.
