I'm in a rare mood to play a jrpg. It's between these two. Which one should I try? Never played either.

I'm not really playing anything at the moment other than Battlefield 3. Just waiting for Saints Row 4 and GTA 5 so no. $:-\$

if he's planning to play them on PC, there are some neat ways to update the games. For Xenoblade you can replace Wii button icons with 360 ones and a higher res hud.

I'll do Xenoblade then since most people seem to be saying that. I'll eventually get to FF 12 as I've always kinda wanted to play that one.

And yeah I'm playing on Dolphin.

I dislike Final Fantasy XII and gave up on Xenoblades after 30 minutes. It's not a pretty game, so you might want to use Dolphin.

Edit: Huh, weird. I didn't see the post above even though it was posted quite a while ago.

^I was going to mention that but considering both are games from ~14 year old hardware, neither will look pretty by today's standards. Having said that, FFXII in HD holds up really well, to the point where it's surprisingly how much detail went into a game that wasn't meant to be seen in HD. What's impressive about Xenoblade is how large and seamless the world is; up close everything looks starts looking rough.

FF12 uses fancy tricks like higher resolution/higher polygon models for cutscenes and such, which Xenoblade doesn't do. On the other hand, Xenoblade has so absolutely massive and beautiful locations.

Honestly, I'd be the minority and say FF12 over Xenoblade, but I haven't started Xenoblade yet.

Granted, everyone saying Xenoblade over FF12 probably have the right idea: Wait to see if Square does FF12:I:ZJS HD remix before going that route. If they don't do it within the next two years, play that. FF12 is awesome and the only people that hate it want stale ATB FF7-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10'sequelfuckfests. :/

FF12 is what I consider the best FF.

But FF12 has a chance of being re-released with the international additions in the next year. So I'm going with Xeno.

FF12s hunt system in general. There's a lot of tough 'post-game' fights in there before Yiazmat. The story and the story fights degraded to the point of being a joke by the end of FF12 despite the stellar beginning/first half. Though I really enjoyed the hunts-marks structure versus the similar but, at least for me, more frustrating sidequests in Xenoblade.

It's that and the battle system, really. I didn't mind Invalice but it wasn't too big enough for me.

The cast wasn't great but it wasn't terrible either. I wouldn't mind another game in Ivalice focusing on Ashe/Balither and Fran/Basch only doing something.

I gotta start Xenoblade sometime this week to see the battle system but really the battle system of FF12 with it's "offline MMO" approach was a breath of fresh air at the time for the series that I want more of.

Played for maybe and hour and half. It seems okay so far. I like the combat system. Graphics are decent enough on dolphin. Seems to be a lot of systems and subsystems in place so initially feels a bit daunting. I'll give an update after I've sunk some actual significant time into it.

The battle system, hunts, and late game dungeons are so great. Especially how the dungeons have dungeons with dungeons that are unlocked through exploration and sidequests. Game is baller.

Clicking through that, I also found a texture pack that offers HD versions of lots of other stuff. Doesn't make a massive difference, but it's still a nice addition.

The game really doesn't look that bad once you up the internal resolution on Dolphin. I was curious about what it looked like stock so I lowered it to the default settings that it would have on the Wii and it looks like shit that way.

I blame the filthy Euros for that. Thankfully "Chronicles" was downsized in the NA logo.
