Medal of Honor 2010
« on: August 16, 2013, 02:18:13 PM »
God this game is more bro then anything I've played before, not to mention its more linear then a COD game.

What the hell happened.

"That was Ninja" is something I've heard ingame.  :-\

It's like EA was so desperate to out COD they created this.

Lots of forum types loved the single player and claimed it was very authentic at the time. Y2kev I remember over at NeoGAF loved it.  Even some guys over here.

I always thought they were crazy.

Authentic? Has anyone here been to Afghanistan?

There is so many artificial barriers in this game, I cant move ahead of my squad even though there is only 1 way to go  :maf

the multiplayer is the only noteworthy thing about this game, and even then it's not that great

Authentic?

I guess in comparison to cod would be their argument but the fact that COD is over the top crazy and stupid is a good thing not a minus.

The problem with those two most recent Medal of Honor games is everything in them had been done better in a COD game. The fact that it was "low key" in comparison to COD only made it more boring. If they really wanted to go that route they should have went in and changed the gameplay style.

Operation Flashpoint: Red River was a much better example of actually trying to change the tone and gameplay style of a military shooter in recent years.

the multiplayer is the only noteworthy thing about this game, and even then it's not that great

I thought the MP was terrible. A really subpar effort from DICE who had bigger fish to fry at the time with Battlefield.

It does feel like a more boring COD yes, I mean at least in COD I cant be offended about the writing because OMG NUKES GOING OFF.

I would try the MP but I'm downloading BF3 and I'm pretty sure that's good.

Hells bells, I'm hitting a guy behind a MG with my rifle, but I'm not supposed to kill him so he is invincible.

For what it's worth the 2012 game is a lot worse. A LOT worse. So you are actually at least playing the better of the two. At least as far as the single player. The MP in the 2012 game was better imo but its completely dead at this point.

Yep, Stoney is right.

I've also been playing MoH 2010 on PC. I played it back when it came out because well like Stoney said people on GAF were saying it's surprisingly decent. Well, I couldn't believe EA thought this was good enough to compete with CoD. It was a completely boring FPS. It had no thrills, no exictment to it, and was just so run of the mill. More gounded is what people said and I guess thats true, but that dosen't make for a good game, because it's not like this is a sim, so what you have here is a pretty bland FPS thats only more grounded because nothing crazy happens. Which is to say it's just CoD without CoD's "intense" moments.

I will say the game looks good on PC, but it does seem to be a meh port.

The mp is also pretty forgettable, but it's really easy.

Now Warfighter, well I kind of like this game. Now I've played most of it on PS3. The game is shit on consoles, it looks bad, is glitchy as fuck even in menus, and runs terribly in mp and sp. The single player is probably worse than 2010 complete with a story that flashes in between things that seem so removed from whats going on and things that are just boring. They simply don't know how to tell a emotionally engaging story regarding a soldier and his family, yet they went ahead anyway and did't integrate it well at all. Plus they added a by the numbers "shoot brown people" military story. It simply has nothing going for it. No real cool mechanics as the breach stuff is hilariously dumb, because the different types mean nothing and yet the game makes a big deal out of them. No real cool ideas as while the driving sequences are interesting, they go on way too long for how simple they are. It's the definition of a by the numbers campaign. And it's competition that year was a CoD that actually tried new things in it's sp.

Despite all this, I've put a fair number of hours into the MP. It's good. It ignores a lot of the unlock shit that is in CoD and even BF. You unlock soldiers instead and well they all mostly come with already solid weapons. You can unlock a few extra attachments, but really most of the soldiers already have good enough weapons. Because of this, the game doesn't feel like a grind and you never feel like there is an unfair advantage. The game is slow paced enough, so it never feels like a game of running around with your head off and it requires some actual team work. Especially, since you are partnered with a buddy who you can spawn off and basically heal each other. Each class has it's own skills and "killstreaks" basically that when used can really help in teamplay. And the level design is pretty decent, striking a good balance between not being small and not being too big.

It's a really good MP, that is it's own thing. On PS3 last time I played it seemed pretty lively.

Now the day before the Origin Humble Bundle, I bought the PC version off Green Man Gaming, because I wanted a version that wasn't a technical disaster. And the PC version runs and looks great, if you can run BF3 expect the same performance. But it does seem kind of dead. Some games, but not a lot. Who knows how long it has left.

Maybe it will be given as a bonus on the Humble Bundle and if it does you should check it out.

Yeah I thought the MP in the last one had some clever ideas. It deserved a better fate than to be saddled with that single player. Maybe something like that mp could have worked in a free to play context especially on the next gen consoles.
