My PS4 preorder is now paid in full.  And I did it all with trades except for $40.

So, what do you guys think the chances are of actually getting a PS4 in 2013 if you didn't preorder? I didn't pay attention to any of this until I realized I could pay for it without spending actual money, so I missed the boat on preorders.

In the US it might be difficult. I don't know how fast they can push out a second shipment. Why don't you put down a pre-order on Amazon or any other place that doesn't force you to pay in advance? (Unless you have store credit somewhere.)

With Sony's Gakai stuff not happening anywhere until 2014, and Europe being later than NA, it wouldn't surprise me if game streaming from profiles drops with related issues. I'm curious to see how many promises Sony actually deliver on when day one comes, and how much was vapour - it wouldn't surprise me one iota if we were in an age of pre-baking / target-rendering OS level shit now.

Xbone releasing in the UK a week earlier than PS4 isn't much of an advantage for them here, but it was the right move if they want to do well here. Should be interesting to see the marketing assaults from both of them in a couple of months time.

Xbone could release a year sooner in europe and still lose, just like now, only this time worse since they are more expensive.

Gaikai was never promised for Europe so they haven't broken that promise yet.

We'll see.

I think they'll come out of the gates behind, purely because of the price alone, but as things settle into non-holiday sales - I could easily see Xbone being considered better value in some quarters. Depends if things like the pass-through DVR and other live features are received well and if consumers actually take the Kinect and FIFA14/Forza things into consideration.

It's weird that they aren't taking pre-orders for the second shipment.

Are you looking forward to any of the launch games? Otherwise you can just wait for an Infamous bundle in 2014.

Preorders on the PS4 are completely cut off until launch, according to what I have heard.  Xbone is (or was yesterday) taking preorders again at GS, probably for the last time as well.

HOWEVER, you might have luck getting a PS4 on launch night if you can get to a store in a smaller town.  My boss came back from conference last week and he's pretty convinced that we may have a couple extras that night.

I don't really need it on launch day, but I would like to play around with it while I have some holiday free time, so before year's end would be nice.

Fuck yeah, fiancé checked at Wal-Mart for me this morning and they still had pre-order slips left (she said they were kind of hidden on the back of a display), so I dropped some money down and got a pre-sale receipt.  I wonder if I'm gonna need to do some nerdy shit like show up at midnight to make sure I get it?  Wal-Mart doesn't oversell things like pre-orders, do they?

Don't know if they oversell pre orders or not but I wouldn't risk some random Wal Mart employee giving your shit to some CAG'er or family member and then giving you the 'oh well what can you do' look when you show to pick it up the next day.

I'm probably going to, she couldn't put the ticket in my name when she picked it up for me. I'm down as an authorized "pick-up" person, but I'd rather not chance any hassle. I've been to a couple of Gamestop midnight releases in the past, felt like a doofus both times. I guess I can feel like a doofus one more time just to make sure some random jackass doesn't snatch up my shit to sell on ebay.

That's not a bad commercial actually. It's not aimed at me obviously, but I can see how this type of ads can be effective.

Speaking of ads, has Sony been promoting the PS4 on any of the conventional channels? Beside inFamous' ads on YouTube I'm not seeing anything.

I think it's a good commercial.  If the Xbone works as seamlessly as it does in that commercial, that could be a pretty good selling point for the NFL fegs.  Also football fegs drop all kinds of crazy money on stupid shit so it wouldn't be too unreasonable for them to spend $500 to talk shit to someone online.

By time the xbone comes out, the NFL season will be over half over. I'm pretty sure that you don't get live games on the xbone either. So they are advertising people watching HIGHLIGHTS of a game already over and talking trash about it. :heh

though to be fair he can import (which is more likely not out of the realm of possibility for someone like DC) since they are apparently region free

Newp, neither console is worth $400 to me at the moment. I'm going to wait until there is a price drop and a decent library as it's still too early to know how each console will differ as far as performance and exclusives.

The XB1 seems like it'll have better exclusives but what does it have over the PS4 as far as online infrastructure, hardware, or the actual OS if you don't care about recording gameplay or anything involving kinect?

I will miss not playing Battlefield 4 but obviously BF5 is going to be the one that really pushes the next-gen consoles and it'll be out soon enough. The game that will definitely make me pull the trigger will be Mirrors Edge 2.
