Earlier this year there was the rumor that WB wanted him to direct Justice League and star as Batman.  Hey, if he can direct Justice League, that could be nice.

And Batman being 10+ years older than Superman means we don't have to stumble over the origin again...but we probably will.

also, Matt Damon is practically aquaman is behind the candelabra.  That's three down for Justice League.

short of it is that people don't have much faith elsewhere in the movie (director, writer, studio).

personally I'm disappointed with the direction (older Batman, coming into Man of Steel's world) and less about Affleck.  He's fine with the right talent (uh, himself).

thinking about this (sadly), if Batman's in his 40s, he'd have a history with most of the villains.  maybe it's like Schumacher's Batman with the film focusing on the fourth encounter with two-face.  maybe the the standalone Batman movies will be prequels; I can buy the guy from the lone ranger as young Ben Affleck.

I'm making 40 sound old because in comics you're either perpetually 30-something or an old man coming out of retirement.
