Second game was like they let some interns use a level editor

Making the second game an Origin exclusive is a good way to prevent me from playing it. If it was on Steam I would probably have bought it when it was down to $5.

Wasn't it part of the last Humble Bundle? Origin is no Steam, but it isn't cancer, either.

Anyway, that doesn't look too bad...

I don't think it was. The only game in that bundle that looked interesting to me was Dead Space 3.

I don't even care about this franchise anymore. With tons of great RPGs on the horizon, there just isn't any reason to.

It was on Steam at release.

EA pulled it when they had their DLC spat with Valve.

Hopefully inquisition is good. It looks completely different than what the first Dragon Age was and certainly a part of me is bitter that they abandoned an attempt to bring back a more classic style of RPG but what can you do.

I don't generally hate Bioware as much as most forums types do so hopefully they rebound after the disaster that was Dragon Age 2. I loved the original Dragon Age.

I don't hate Bioware either, but they just make mediocre action games now.

I mean if Mass Effect 3 was a competent shooter or if Dragon Age 2 was an ok hack and slash I'd prob give this a chance too.

But compared to Tomb Raider, Max Payne and even Binary Domain, a game like Mass Effect 3 just doesn't compare very well.

I disagree. They've made equally bad games in the past. Jade Empire sucked too. I like Mass Effect including 3. I liked the original Dragon Age. Dragon 2 was bad. I think its in vogue to trash them because people think they should be making Baldur's Gate style games for some reason which ain't gonna happen.

Tomb Raider, Max Payne are both enjoyable games that I like but comparing them to Mass Effect is a bit much despite the action bent of the Mass Effect series and I thought the action was fine in Mass Effect relatively speaking. I think Binary Domain is a forum favorite that is over-rated but that's just my take.

Bioware has always been average.

I'm certain they made a pact with Satan while developing Baldur's Gate 2.  That's the only way I can explain that game's quality.

I think Bioware is treated like they are doing RPG's wrong and The Witcher or some old school jank euro rpg is the only correct way to do them. And I think that is incorrect. I quite liked Mass Effect, Kotor, Dragon Age 1. I like a good Bioware RPG. I like story. I don't mind cutscenes, etc. There is also bad Bioware. Who made things like Jade and Dragon Age 2. So its not a case for me at least of Bioware being teh awful. Its more a case of them delivering a better product versus their worst products.

Dragon Age 2 was a low-point for me simply because of how much lying went in to marketing that game. And how much of a step back it was from the direct prior game.

Dragon Age 1 was really nice and full of promise for the future. So was Mass Effect 1. Both games screamed potential. But then instead of refining them into rpg's they watered them down to action games.

The shooting in Mass Effect is serviceable, but compared to real shooters it feels wonky.Having played 3 for 3 hours all the locales feel small, I was supposed to be fighting on the surface of a planet but I felt like I was running down corridors, the level design  was just meh. There was more freedom in Tomb Raider then this.

Ironically SWOTR is the best game they made the last few years, and that's the one that gets shitted on the most. It is by all means at least an actual RPG with a big storyline.

I'm not down on Bioware because they stopped making rpg's by the way, I love shooters. But give me a good shooter then with a branching story.

I don't think streamlining in all cases is a bad thing. Mass Effect 2 is a directly streamlined version of Mass Effect and it is much much much better imo. Mass Effect 1 was one of the more over-rated games of this gen. Great concept. Great Universe. Not actually a very fun game and not actually a good rpg.

Dragon Age by comparison did suffer because I thought the first was an adequate RPG, especially at a time when there were very few adequate RPG's. But Dragon Age 2 sucked for a lot of different reasons. Not just the action focus (which was not a good choice for that franchise)

At this point its clear Inquisition is no longer trying to do a classic RPG. They are essentially trying for Skyrim done with Bioware storytelling. I'll judge it on those merits (or lack of them) when the game comes.

Mass Effect 2 was kind of a step up in many things, the loot in 1 sucked so streamlining gear was good. It was a better shooter for it. But ME3 didn't make any step forward in that regard but time had moved on a few years and I expect more if they are sticking to this formula, game felt very confined. Also the music got pretty bad after ME1.

Dragon Age 2 was horrible because of the reuse of assets, errand quests, boring levels and combat that was trying to be god of war.

First video: wait, this is dragon age? a lot happened between the first one and this. what the fuck.

Second video: that's tactical view? Is it even still turn based? I'm confused.

The worst thing is, the Mass Effect preview build had all these cool rpg features. THey axed them, and iirc didn't bring them back at all in later sequels.

DA:O was never turn based, not even semi-turn based like the Infinity Engine games. You could just pause at any time. I assume that's the same in Inquisition as well.

Not too interested this game specifically, but the direction Bioware is taking the series is potentially exciting for the next Mass Effect.  More or less every Bioware RPG has followed the same format for the past 15 years or so.  If Mass Effect:Subtitle emphasizes exploration, takes cues from Bethesda like this seems to, it's a great way to reinvent and reintroduce that series.
