I think a console is still required for any fan of japanese games.
Is it though. It seems more and more Japanese developers are porting their stuff to PC as well.

I mean fucking King of Fighters XIII is coming to steam. So is Deadly Premonition. I see Namco and Capcom will probably keep going and it even looks like FFXV may come out on PC.

When I get persona, musou, and final fantasy on PC that's when I stop buying consoles. Until then I'm going to keep doing it.

Don't link an mmo or a re-release of a decade old pc version, Rumbler. Please. Just no. :gurl

If FFXV is on Steam, then we'll talk. Until then.

I bought a gba for Aria of Sorrow and a Ds for Dawn of Sorrow. I know your love, just not as much but I understand it.

My list:

Genesis - I asked for a Super Nintendo. :yeshrug
Game Gear - portable Fatal Fury and Sonic. Fatal Fury GG remains one of the handheld fighters. Sonic GG sucked.
Game Boy - Wario Land 1
Psx - FF7
N64 - OoT
Saturn - Panzer Dragoon
Ps2 - FFX
Gba - Aria
Cube - Metroid Prime and Wind Waker
Xbox - Panzer Dragoon Orta
PSP Crisis Core
360 - GTAIV
Wii - Twilight Princess and hype
Ds - Dawn of Sorrow
Ps3 - FFXIII
3ds - SMTIV

Getting ps4 for FFXV.

Never bought a Dream cast. Mupepe gave me his in 2006.

nah, got the ps2 on launch day, for work purposes.  ditto on the dreamcast.  genesis was bought for gunstar heroes.  game gear was bought for shinobi.  gbc for tetris dx.  neo pocket color for snk vs capcom.  saturn for virtua fighter 2.  gamecube for mario sunshine.  xbox for halo.  360 for geometry wars.  wii for zelda tp.  ps3 for yakuza 3.  3ds cuz hype.  vita for Ys, wipeout, and a probable yakuza title.

lament wasn't great, but i'd buy a console for it before i'd buy a console for lords of blah-dow.
MercurySteam's shame really has no end.

For games that sold me, the main thing I come up with is how important Halo had been to my Xbox purchases, and how irrelevant it's become.  Can't think of another series that I bought consoles for.

maybe Elder Scrolls/Fallout, for upgrading PC hardware.

I always need at least a handful of games to justify a platform. The only time I jumped in sight unseen was the PS2, which eventually paid off massively, but it was slow to start.

Of course, on my list there are other hidden games. For psx there were Crash games, Tekken, Ridge Racer that I wanted. For ps2 there was MGS2, DMC, GTAIII;etc I never buy a system for one game, the only exception being the Wii for TP - it was also my first launch console. I'm talking about that one game that you NEEDED which takes that system from 'want' to 'NEED' and is the main reason you're buying that system.

Hmm...

NES- just to have.  Got it the year everyone else got one for Crimmus
Genesis- I honestly think it was because it had the version of MK II with blood.  What?  I was that age.
N64- Ocarina of Time
PSX- Probably Resident Evil/RE2.  Also because it had a lot of games on it and the N64 didn't really have shit. (a pattern emerges!)
Dreamast- Soul Calibur 2.  Launch day, bitches.
PS2- GTA3
Xbox- Halo (after launch)
GCN- Metroid Prime  :yuck
X360- Fallout 3
PS3- Bladerunner blu-ray

I can understand not liking 2 and 3, but I'll never understand the Metroid Prime 1 hate...

amazing atmosphere
one of the greatest game soundtracks
solid controls
near endless exploration

NES first system, went to a younger cousins house, spoiled brat we were my brother and I dropped off in his room so the adults can hang out and we saw him playing the NES, I was like mind officially blown I don't think I even saw a video game up until that point he was playing zelda so that's the game that sold me.

SNES We just wanted one because it was 16bit

N64 Mario64

PC My family got a gaming capable PC, I saw the master race light :rejoice

PSX I got it with my own money, having a jerb :aah

GC REmake

Xbox Halo

PS2 Just cuz

Current gen consoles, and a gamecube turbo, sold them and went PC only.

Next Gen I'm going PC/Tablets
