I bought the 5S.  I called last night and Genius® said people were already lining up (for a telephone  ???).  I didn't have a problem strolling in at noon and getting a SPACE GRAY one as planned.  It's like my 4S but slightly lighter  :heart

iOS7 is new and confusing and weirdly quiet.

apple's podcast app doesn't even work in ios7 for me. which is annoying because I don't want to bother downloading a new podcast app at the moment, but also good since a) apple's podcast app is asscheeks ugly, and b) see a)

Also- Republic, the mobile provider that offers insanely good plans, finally got a halfway decent phone to go with their plans.  If the Moto X is, in fact, halfway decent, which most reviews have claimed it is.

it's cheaper and better than most no-contract phones, and I can get a dirt-cheap minutes-only plan without being saddled with a data plan

I sure don't like being shackled to my Verizon plan. They reactivated my phone without reminding me, and cost me an extra $50 in accidental Roaming when I restored my phone prior to my US trip.  :(

I've heard that it's not TERRIBLE on iphone 4, just slower across the board generally speaking, and there are a few new features you don't get, none of which I was terribly interested in anyway.

I'll still probably wait until they've released a performance boosting update for it to bother updating my phone, though.

I installed it an iphone 4 I got off of Craigslist.  Not bad but definitely laggy - much more so than on the 4s that my wife uses. I'm glad I updated to 7 (like the way it looks) but would definitely recommend at least waiting for a speed improvement.

Oddly, it was laggy as hell the first day but improved quite a bit the next    :yeshrug

Why the hell is it so hard to download anything or sync apps?  I must have downloaded the iTunes U App a dozen times already because it keeps prompting me to yet it won't sync up or work at all.

My contract ends next month, this pretty much seals the deal that I'm not getting another iPhone.  Good jon, Apple.

Could you be more specific in regards to the problems your having with iTunes U?

Honestly a good rule of thumb is that Apple's system apps (ie, the apps that ship with the phone, so Settings, Safari, Calculator, Calendar, etc) are very well optimized and work very well with the phone, mostly because Forrester and now Ive worked very very closely with the hardware teams to make sure the apps work as near to perfect as possible (which of course doesn't happen, but it gets darn close).

However, Apple's secondary apps that you can download from the App Store (iTunes U, Podcasts, Apple Store, the iWork/iLife suite) are far far behind in optimization and design quality as compared to the system apps.  There's obviously some sort of disconnect between the various software teams housed within Apple and the main UI and hardware team that is responsible for the phones.  My recommendation is: if there's a third party app that does what you want, download that instead of an Apple one.

It kept prompting me to download iTunes U at the iTunes Store.  Then it kept asking me to provide three security questions, which I did every time.  Then I saw the download progress.  Then when it came time to sync up, it showed that it transferred over.  However at the end of the sync, the app was not there and iTunes prompted me to download the program again.

No big deal, I deleted the iTunes U content and the message went away.  I appreciate your help.  I'm not an advanced iOS user by any means since the Apple programs, until now, did the job.

Just curious but did you set the 4 up from new or restore from a backup? When I first installed ios7 I thought it was a big mistake...not everything run pretty smooth - old hardware considered.

The music program sucks.  They moved the bar to the bottom of the screen.  However they did put in an option to repeat a song as opposed to a playlist, which is new.  Sometimes I'll listen to the same song 4-5 times in a row and with iOS 7 I can do that without a problem.  The screen commands had a lot of lag for some reason.

The camera program is great and the only positive I've seen so far with iOS 7.  Worked fantastically for a bunch of pictures I had to take today.

Someone please update the thread title when 7.1 or even 7.0.1 comes out.

Right now all this iOS update does is make it hard to access Apple's servers.  :maf

I dunno, a little bit slower, but I'm not really noticing it being that much slower. I mainly just use my phone for derping around on the internet when I'm not at my computer. PAD still works, so I can't complain. (Several other games were completely borked though, but they were shit games that weren't PAD, so oh well.)

Fortunately, there's a work around body part you can use to log in that can't be so easily duplicated...

Tricking the fingerprint scanner requires a really high resolution image of your fingerprint and then putting it onto a mold thing.

Now ask yourself if you or anybody you know has information on your phone that is valuable enough for a potential hacker to be willing to go through the trouble? It's just a feature to keep your porn and flirty texts private.

The iOS 7 experience continues to fail to impress.

I wonder what dipshit at Apple decided to put the volume slider on the same side of the screen as the previous track/pause/next track buttons/symbols.  Wanted to skip a song while it was on shuffle and was treated to having it blast at full volume instead.  iOS 5 and 6 had the volume slider on the opposite end of the screen and for good reason.
