LG G2 is $50 on the VW site until the 11th. Assuming that I stick with them, I think I'll just wait and get a Moto X whenever VW finally gets MotoMaker.

Well, except for the contract holder obviously.

Who you guys have carriers?

I'm on T-Mobile right now.  I signed up for their plan which allows me to upgrade every 6 months.

Throttled past 2.5 GB of data, unfortunately. Unlimited everything, technically, just not LTE. After 2.5 GB you get 2G-ish or so speeds.

I did a lot of research for the best low-cost options here. T-Mobile has the best all-around option, with a $30/month plan and 5 GB at LTE speeds, but I couldn't go with them because they have no coverage where my parents are in CT, and I visit fairly often.

In the rare case you go past 2.5GB, how fast is 2G?

Nationwide coverage is T-Mobile's main problem.  I got unlimited 4G/LTE since it was only $10 more per month.   It's super fast in LA but I've been to places where I'd have been lucky to get 2G.

I still think T-Mobile is worth it if you live somewhere where you have great coverage like T-Mobile and you don't travel much.  The money you save for unlimited 4G over ATT/Verizon is enough to buy a new phone every two years.

Haven't hit it yet, and based on the neat-o Android data visualization chart thing in settings, it doesn't look like I will in a given month - after 15 days, I've only used 681 megabytes. But if it happens I'll let you know.

Typical rates for 2G range from 400kbits/second to 1Mbit/second.

Guys, I need help making a decision.

Verizon is saying that if I upgrade my contract, they'll give me 6GB a month for only a penny extra. My data charge would be $30 instead of $29.99. Do I trust them and get a Moto X on contract for $100? Or say fuck off, keep my unlimited data, and get the dev edition Moto X off contract for $400 when it goes on sale for Cyber Monday?

Depends on how much data you use. If you're just streaming music than 6GB is enough. However if I you really want to have a legit unlimited plan, see how T-Mobile is in your area. They offer legit unlimited and the plan was cheaper than the Verizon alternative for me.

I usually end up using like 2.1GB a month, but that's with me kinda monitoring it and switching to wifi any chance I get. When I first got this phone, I'd go over 3GB regularly. My battery has been complete shit for a while now, so I haven't been streaming or doing much on it at all recently. Just twitter, instagram, and listening to downloaded music.

Main reasons why I haven't already jumped to T-Mobile is because I'm still on a family plan that I'm not paying for, I hear their 4G is slower, and their service still has a bad rep.

We're in the same boat, bruh. I would check the T-Mobile site as it will tell you about coverage in your area. Mine is pretty good so I jumped.

If the coverage is shit, switch to the data plan Verizon suggests but get it in writing so they can't screw you later on.

Is buying the dev edition of the Moto X something you want to avoid? Do you actually want to use Moto Maker or is it a price thing?

It's just a price thing, so I guess it doesn't have to be the dev edition. I could get a 16GB version through Moto Maker for $350 instead. I shouldn't worry about storage space since my current phone is mainly filled with music. I'd just stream more often.

Yeah I mean with unlimited data there'd be no reason not to. Well, except battery, but the X's should at least be an improvement over what you currently have (don't know what it is, so I'm just assuming.)

Still thinking about throwing extra money at the dev edition. What is wrong with me?

I'm being stupid. Gonna try to call them Verizon back up and just get the 16GB for $100. I'll put the rest of my money towards the PC that I wanna build early next year.

So, I need a new phone, but I've got another year before my contract is up. My Galaxy Nexus is buggy garbage. I'm on Verizon and would prefer to stay that way. What can I get at full retail that's better than my current phone and won't kill my wallet? That Nexus 5 looks sexy, but I know it isn't supported by Verizon and looks like they don't have any plans to do so.
ok.

Pretty similar. The SIII is probably more powerful and I'm guessing has a superior camera. The G has better software and will be better supported.
