You guy mean a gsm only model or that the phone is an CDMA-GSM hybrid? My provider won't work with the hybrids for some reason.

Umm all versions of the Moto G available to buy right now, outside the custom Sprint version, are GSM (non CDMA.) In fact, there are two GSM models (world and US.) Verizon CDMA won't come until January.

Plus, it seemed like the main knock was "it's not quite as good as smartphones that are 2-3x the price".

I read the review, I thought it was pretty positive.

Very poorly written, though.

So, I swear I read something about the verizon Moto G being only prepaid or whatever. is that true? Or can I get it with the standard verizon 2-year contract bs?
ok.

I think right now it's only available unsubsidized/off-contract, but I assume you'll be able to get it discounted with a contract soon. The CDMA version (Verizon) isn't available yet, anyway.

motorola announced they were partnering with providers and that many of them were going to use the moto g as a prepaid phone - verizon among the first. some of the providers will be selling the phone cheaper than 179/199 and that will still be off contract - but i guarantee they will preload it with bullshit. you can buy the g cheap as fuck from providers (tesco?) in england. the tesco moto g has an altered rom but it is still pretty damn close to stock but i wouldnt trust fuck verizon at all with leaving it stock.

Much better. Pretty much better everything: 720p vs 1080p, Snapdragon 400 vs 800, 5 megapixel vs 8 megapixel OIS, HSPA+ vs 4G LTE. I think the Moto G has better battery life even though it's like 200 mAh less.

Moto G is the only choice if you're ratchet, otherwise spring for the N5. It'll last longer and keep up with the spec wars better (less jealousy later.)

The Moto G's an excellent phone for the price, probably the best $200 phone of all time and the foreseeable future. Nexis 5 is a flagship, though.

do you have to have a 1080p screen?
do you have to have lte?
can you deal with a mediocre 5mp camera?

would you rather pocket 200 dollars and deal with the shortcomings (as few as they are) of the moto g?

pretty easy answer for me.

I think the biggest trade off of the Moto G is the professor and RAM. It's a very fast phone right now but the N5 is more future proof.

Also, I can't go back to having a shit camera after two years with the Galaxy Nexus's shitty ass camera. The N5's, especially with HDR+ and in 4.4.2, is drop-dead awesome in comparison.

Also, the 32 GB of storage is nice, didn't have to go backwards from my GN, while the Moto G tops out at 16 GB.

ok so after using the phone for 24 hours here are my impressions:

Build Quality
- solid. phones feels much more substantial than any "cheap" phone i have ever used
- button placement feels strange but works great when in a phone call
- no button rattles. no 'build quality' issues of any kind. eat shit verge
- camera is decent for 5mp. i think most people are use to better cameras now though. better camera quality than my nexus 4 though
- back cover is the only 'cheap' feeling part of the phone buts its not that bad at all. will definitely be buying a different back though (white :hyper)
- screen is fucking god tier for a $200 phone. its as good as any phone ive used
- wifi and bluetooth are strong as hell. better than the nexus 4
- call quality is great. made an hour long phone call to best buy support today and call quality was same from beginning to end
- speakerphone is loud as hell (maybe a little distorted when you turn it all the way up)

OS and stuffs
- jelly bean runs like a champ on the phone. the only lag i have seen on it was when first downloading from a backup (20 or 30 apps downloading at once will        do that to any phone). the slowdown didn't last long and i havent see any since
- touchscreen is responsive and snappy. not as responsive as the nexus 4 but barely
- every single app ive used has run perfectly. chrome loads webpages fine with no lag
- phone has a built in radio!! why don't all phones have a radio?
- havent tried out any games yet. don't use my phone for them
- interested to see how well it runs with kit kat

i will have to use it more to know for sure but the battery must be made from special stuff. Before bed last night the phone was a 72%. After using the phone to text my wife for a few minutes, use twitter for 20 minutes or so, and talk to best buy for almost an hour the phone is sitting at 56%!! That is legendary compared to the complete dogshit battery in the nexus 4.

im really liking the phone so far. my only nitpick is the back cover collecting fingerprints.
i was originally going to get a nexus 5 until i saw this phone announced. not even a little disappointed with my decision. with the money i saved i can buy a nexus 7 and have both.

i can't compare the moto g to any other smartphone, but i am loving mine. i can't really add anything to halgorithmic's rundown, since the few games i have tried out aren't too intensive. i guess if you can't live without LTE, then maybe you shouldn't get this, but 3G is pretty good for me and who the fuck cares about a 1080p screen? this thing is already as sharp as a "retina" iphone screen. it doesn't feel or look like a cheap smartphone at all. and the battery is definitely amazing.

i don't care enough to pay money to switch the back cover.

Gave sis her Moto G a few days ago. She used to have an iPhone but it broke, and for the last week she was using my mom's Nexus 4. She's taking the transition better than I thought. She loves the size of it compared to the N4 and the screen is absolutely amazing. She also says the battery life is way better than her iPhone. I was surprised that it's a very solid phone too, no shakiness or rattling. Got her the purple back cover and now the only question is the music situation since she's tied up with iTunes.

She also got KitKat last night and the killer feature for her is the universal emoji. Camera kinda blows though.

SO uh, anyone bought one of the OnePlus Ones? They seem nice and i need a new phone, but you need an invite :(

Either that or the Xiaomi mi4. OnePlus One seems ideal tho, still rocking an S3 with CM11 and newly smashed up but usable screen...
