well, it states 7 hours, whereas the Dell states 10

guess that's the tradeoff for a lighter tablet with a bit of a processor boost

How does the Asus T100 stack up?

From what I've read- same processor, better battery life, mediocre build quality, bad touchpad, software bugs.

Really seriously considering getting one of these things now.  The Dell price is awesome but I need HDMI out, so I'd probably have to go with the Asus.

Asus T100 ordered.  If nothing else, it's going to perform better than my HP DM1Z, plus I'll finally have a laptop with an SSD and a tablet to use for comic reading.  Gonna load it up with emulators...fuck that shitty GCW-Zero now.

Let me know how that T100 works out for you. Was thinking about getting one for my mom for Christmas.

Really, really impressed with the T100.  Build quality is great and nothing feels cheap about it like I read in some reviews.  The finish on the plastic used also gives everything a more metallic appearance.

Only tried a few games so far.  Skullgirls runs at 60 FPS at 1280x768 with 3D backgrounds turned off and I actually got the Street Fighter IV Benchmark test to run at average of 69.81 FPS (A Rank) with v-sync off, ultra-low 640x480 res, BUT with backgrounds turned on high and character model details on medium.  That's extremely impressive for a little tablet- my HP DM1Z could not run SSF4 well with backgrounds turned on at all.

Was able to play CoD Black Ops II multiplayer on my DM1Z at around 60 FPS on low detail at 800x600...I wonder if I can get better results on this thing.

Yeah, you can. You can also hook up a USB OTG cable and use kb/mouse through that.

Outrun 2 C2C runs at 1366x768 at 60 fps.  Fuuuuuuck this is awesome.

Can you pair a BT Mouse & Keyboard with this?

Would be amazing for some Anachronox/ Deus Ex/ ePSXe/ DOS era gaming.

The Asus T100 comes with a full keyboard/touchpad and has a USB 3.0 port- just plug a mouse in and you're set.

I got one for $99 today -- had to roll up to the Microsoft Store at 6:30 in the morning to do it though.

Are there any good PC games that work with only a touch interface?

What are you guys using for cases on this thing? I've been using this ugly generic silver tablet case for the past few weeks: http://www.kmart.com/inland-soft-eva-carry-case-for-tablets-up/p-018V006681578000P

Found this case on Amazon and bought it, hope it works out better for me: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GPH6T8E/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=

Nothing. I made a sleeve out of padded microfiber cloths and duct tape a while back, I just slip it in that when I'm done using it.

Nothing to regret with these purchases-  The cheaper Win 8 tablets are awesome!  I can see myself selling it off in a year or two, or giving it to my wife, if a similarly-priced model comes out with more HD space though.

yeah, the 500gb should be enough - i don't really want anything on this other than the emu stuff to be honest.

Looks like i am off to India soon as well, 2-4 weeks. :O
Could be time for me and the T100 to bond! :D

Had a weird problem with my DV8 tonight. Screen started flickering dark bands randomly, and had some pretty bad image retention. No amount of rebooting seemed to help, so I figured maybe the backlight was going out. I looked at the various forums to see if anyone else had the issue, but didn't find anything other than some people having trouble waking the screen from sleep. I checked on Amazon, and to my surprise the return date was January 31st, which is pretty damned good for something I bought on November 8.  I set up a return/replacement. Of course, five minutes later the screen banding and retention seemed to fade away, but I'm not taking any chances on it shitting the bed again a month from now after the return period is over. Hopefully they won't give me any grief over it.

I'm considering one of these windows small tablets for my next tablet.  Are they basically netbooks in terms of functionality? And how much free space is there after all the windows stuff is installed?

that lenovo thinkpad looks nicer, but the dell venue 8 pro frequently drops to around $200.

What about the Dell Venue 11 Pro? Anybody have any experience with that?
Seems to me Windows 8.1 will be more useful with more screen real-estate.

Seriously contemplating buying it.

there was no way i could bring my Alienware beastotron on the business trip to India, but the T100... oh my, i loves it.

BUT

I can see an upgrade maybe next year - with a touch more umph we are definitely floating in space.
I no longer need an Ipad, but i would really like to run Reason 7 full blast - too many modules and the t100 starts barfing.

So - what is the logical update from a T100 these days?

I would like to get a little bit more firepower! (i assume Surface Pro 3 ?)

Sure, but the cost is a lot higher.  There are updated T100s out, but they're only a bit faster.  I'm gonna keep mine until at least 2015 before ditching it for something else, I think.  I have a crazy-powerful Sager laptop now so I want to keep with the cheap Win tablets.

They didn't have it when I got it.    :'(

That said, it's not necessary and would be for messing around with games or whatever.  Something that doesn't matter as much now.

But my plan is to give my current one to my wife and get myself a more powerful model later on.

I opted out of the 500gb pack. For me it's not really a device to store things on.
I stream all my video and music. Have no desire to play games on it.

The included pen itself is a bit lame but I think the digitizer is good (it should work with any Wacom pen l think), based on playing with it using a different pen at the MS store
