SquareEnix Kickstarter Funded - Drakengard 3 coming to US

Quote
LOS ANGELES (Oct. 9, 2013) – Square Enix, Inc., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in the Americas, today announced that its action (RPG) Drakengard®3 will be coming to the Americas exclusively for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system.

A prequel to the original Drakengard, Drakengard 3 transports players to a medieval world where six goddess-like sisters known as “Intoners” have brought peace to the earth with their power to manipulate magic through song. Harmony is disrupted, however, when the eldest sister, Zero, attempts to murder her younger sisters with the help of her dragon companion, Mikhail. As the story progresses, players find themselves in a battle to unravel the mystery of Zero and learn her true intentions.

Featuring the series’ signature brand of action, Drakengard 3 pits players against hordes of fiends and foes in remorseless hack-and-slash ground combat, and then sends them soaring for pitched aerial battles on the back of Mikhail.

Drakengard 3 will be available for $49.99 next year on the PlayStation®3 system and for digital download on the PlayStation®Network and the Square Enix Online Store. Starting today, players can pre-order the game at the Square Enix Online Store.

The wording is ambiguous, but it makes it sounds like the ability to pre-order is what is exclusive to the SE store.

That's what I figured, but the "Pre-order Drakengard 3 today exclusively at the SQUARE ENIX ONLINE STORE!" blurb on the product page made me wonder.

No way is this just SE store exclusive.

Don't they have to pay Sony a type of amount and print a specific number of discs if they do a psychical release? Didn't Xenobalde get passed hardware manufacture polices because it was from Nintendo?

I mean isn't this why some companies just do a digital release on PSN and a Xbox only physical release, because of the way these polices work? Wouldn't committing to a physical release from a third party mean it has to have a at least a set amount of copies?

Actually though, wasn't Under Defeat PS3's US release only on Amazon or something?

I guess that depends on your definition of RPG. First-person dungeon crawlers, Fire Emblem, and Demon's/Dark Souls have fantastic gameplay.

The turn based stuff is decent but demon souls/dark souls and dragons dogma left a bad taste in my mouth.  I dunno if it is the control schemes or not in those games.  Ill buy dark souls 2 on pc and see if it is any good in my eyes.  I just hated the party member system in dragons dogma, may aswell have made it a single character rpg.

gosh, this isn't racist at all

Maybe i should have said RPG makers in general.  At least the kickstarter games look good from western devs.  Like Wasteland 2, Project Eternity, Toment Numenera, Divinity Original Sin.  From the Euros we got Witcher 3 but that is about the only decent RPG from big publishers.

Well if you can put up with shoddy Dynasty Warrior's gameplay and are one of those people all about the "experience" then maybe you'll like them

1 is a pretty poor game gameplay wise, but it it makes up for it with how different and strange it is. Even the music is really out there. The story and characters while not terribly fantastic are so strange and unlike most games that they are enthralling. The story may not actually be good, but you may be entertained by just where it decides to go and how dark and twisted it is.

2 is a better game, but more normal really. Typical jrpg plot and characters, but the actual better gameplay is at least acceptable. Still it seems like it was a lower budget production. It still has some dark stuff and even a few touching moments, but its nowhere near as interesting as the first game.

personaly the only cavia game i've played was nier... nier doesn't play bad,it's the actual plot that it's a total drama fest to the point of getting incredibly stupid and i absolutely hate it... just think of this, half of the plot revolve around a little girl suffering from magic cancer and yet it still tries to up the :gloomy factor until it culminates into one of the most stupid plot twist i've ever seen, the twist for those that don't know

spoiler (click to show/hide)
everything you've been fighting was actualy human WITH FEELINGS AND STUFF so YOU ARE THE REAL MONSTER!!!1! so as you replay all of the bosses get extra dialogue about what good fella they really are... my favourite are the wolves in desert who actualy are enviromentalist wolves who are fighting because the evil human have turned the thing into a desert (despite the fact that the actual human live in a bunch of stone house and you never seen anything that look's like a big city mind you) yes, this game has enviromentalist wolves, you think actual wolves wouldn't care but what do i know

oh and there's a bit where a bunch of enemies near the end turn out to be a bunch of babies and the game is all like "MY BABIES! YOU ARE KILLING THEM! NOOOOOO!" in what is the most hamfisted attempt at making someone feel bad ever

the most stupid plot twist award still goes to code geass by the way

What makes these games interesting:

Drakengard 1:
Batshit insane story
Dark oppressive atmosphere that builds slowly and then goes off the deep end in later portions of the game.
Horrible camera controls and repetitive battlefields, but oddly cathartic
Soundtrack comprised of mostly harmonic dissonance
Awful camera controls
You get to hop on a dragon
Excellent voice acting
60fps

Drakengard 2:
Less crazy story
Really nice environmental effects (flower petals getting kicked up and sparks and stuff)
Deeper combat, almost PSO-like rhythm
More varied mission design
You get to hop on a dragon
Excellent voice acting
60fps

Nier:
Really interesting cyclical storytelling
Subtley positioned as a sequel to the final ending of Drakengard 1
Varied action rpg gameplay that pays homage to everything from Text adventures to Zelda to Cave shooters.
Clever writing
Fetchy side quests that all have "bad" endings
Amazing soundtrack
Excellent voice acting
DREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAMDREAM
One of the ballsiest most conclusive 4th wall breaking endings ever conceived

Drakengard 2's voice acting was not excellent at all.  Ubisoft did a shit job.

Completely disagree, having played it recently.  I felt like the cast was able to appropriately hit the right "beats" in the dialog delivery.  A lot of the major dialog is delivered in a "tomino-esque" way during battle, and the English versions of both games managed to capture that feel.  It's hard to describe, but I really liked the delivery.

Where / in what way did you feel it was lacking?

Because they have choice and consequence.  That alone puts them above other rpgs in general.  Team based play is also good.  The fact that NPCs in the team responds to what you do is also cool.  The fact that they dont have have asshole publishers nerfing their game is also good.
