What are your top 3 things to see/do in the US?

Just don't say NEW YORK, be a bit more specific if you can.

Planning the honeymoon.

It's a massive country, that's a tough one.

I'll be West coast-centric, though. Take a drive up highway 101 through California, Oregon and Washington. Hit the redwoods, San Francisco, the awesome breweries along the Oregon coast, drive over to Portland, then up I-5 to Seattle. Take a day trip to Mt. Rainier.

I know, besides NYC everything is open for debate so far.

I would like to see Maine maybe, but that's more of a fall thing I guess.

Think I should ad this will take place in summer.

Yeah I didn't know if he was going East or West.
Baltimore is still the best on the East Coast of the 10 or so I've been to
Saddest aquarium is the DC one which is in the basement of a federal building.

I like the Met for touristy stuff because there's a hell of a lot of the world's plundered loot in that place.

MoMA is nice, but honestly it's super packed with tourists.

If you do Modern Art, the Hirshorn at the Smithsonian is good and the American Art Museum is pretty amazing.

edit: American Art Museum contains one of my favorite pieces of art.  The Adoration of St. Joan.  It's a gargantuan wood burning that measures 10 feet by 4 feet and is inlaid with gold and some crazy symbolism.  http://americanart.si.edu/collections/search/artwork/?id=8500

Moab is great. We scattered my wife's grandmother's ashes under one of the arches.

lets be pragmatic,

fly into either new york or dc, then hop on over to san fran and after you're done exploring the city, work your way towards yosemite and bow before your american gods.

West Coast it is.

Oregon and Washington have killer weather in July/August.

Plus, I'll drink beer with you.

It's a bit out of the way, but:

Carlsbad Caverns is really amazing. Descending deep into the earth, getting to see some of the most incredible underground rock formations in the entire country, feeling the weight of billions of tons of rock above your head, it's great.

I don't really know what you or your wife would like to do but I would:

1. Go see the Book of Mormon on Broadway.
2. Go gambling in Vegas and see Penn & Teller's magic show.
3. Go to Washington state and get baked and maybe catch a stand up comedy show whilst baked.

Definitely do Vegas. Everyone loves getting drunk on the street, gambling, and fucking in a huge marble shower.

Obligatory: come get high with me and the misses

Don't ever call it San Fran though.  Or Frisco.

The Emperor decrees it!

Whoever after due and proper warning shall be heard to utter the abominable word "Frisco", which has no linguistic or other warrant, shall be deemed guilty of a High Misdemeanor, and shall pay into the Imperial Treasury as penalty the sum of twenty-five dollars.

San Francisco is pretty great. The touristy stuff isn't horrible, but there are wonderful bookshops and coffee shops and the people are nice.

Portland, Oregon was wonderful, at least 20 years ago it was. Lovely parks. Apparently it's still the '90s there, and flannel is still a thing?

Not much reason to go to LA, other than Disneyland, which is just expensive and not all that special. It's great, just don't go expecting anything other than lines to good rides and bad food.

Disneyland was great as a kid. Way better than World. LA is pretty zzz. Bay Area is :heartbeat

Portland is weird. When I first got there, I saw a guy in a storm trooper costume. I knew I came to the right place. The amount of porno shops and strip clubs is ridiculous though.

An officer held up the coat and barked: ‘Who takes a coat to the US in the summer?!’ I answered it would keep me dry, in case the New Orleans levees would break again. The officer remained silent. He dropped my coat like a dishcloth.
