3DS XL is a better option than both, but still.

Same. I honestly do not care about the 3D effects in 3DS titles. My only major problem with the 2DS is the fact it doesn't close/protect the screens unless there is some snap-on cover that Nintendo didn't show.

But I'm going to wait until I'm able to mod the system or something so I'm not at the mercy of Nintendo's terrible digital buying system.

yeah, it's unnecessary.  3DS is Nintendo games and JRPG.  Only Nintendo game to support it is kid arthritis, and all it does is mirror the controls.
