Does gaming suck right now, because all I see is hate in these skies

Man, lately people here hating on everything.  I mean Nintendo hate is for par here, but people hating on X1/PS4 launches, hating on Mario everything, hating on KH, hating on Dark Souls, hating on Last of Us, hating on GTAV; I come to the gaming side for decent discussion of videogames, but lately all I see is everyone trolling every game.  Is it because there are no good games to play anymore so everyone is in some weird game depression and lashing out at the game industry?  Or is everyone just moody because of the government shutdown and possible world financial crisis looming?

I mean, it seems like gaming's been pretty decent lately with Marlo Briggs, Wolf Among Us, GTAV, SR4, Pokemon, and footage of Mario3d Land and next game launch games keeps looking more and more improved as we get closer to winter releases.


Now I'm as much guilty of this as everyone and I troll stuff here and there, but it just seems like everyone is really negative lately.


I still like games.

I'm not seeing this hate you're talking about. GTAV thread pretty much everyone in the thread playing the game likes it a lot. Mario 3d World looks great. KH hate? Where? Dark Souls hate is probably from the overrated thread? I didn't see that as Dark Souls hate, as much as it was Dark Souls dissent. Not everyone likes that game. TLOU has always had hate because elitist gamers can't swallow that other people like different games than they do so they distinguished mentally-challenged fellow out about it.

spelunky's daily challenges are enough to keep me optimistic all on it's own (even if there are other nice things). Really great form of habitual play (as opposed to Animal Crossing's "come back tomorrow!" and F2P stamina systems) that takes everything good about Spelunky and adds the pressure of a single attempt and exact parity re: leader boards.

I really hope they do special day stages (halloween, christmas eve, etc.)

Gaming isn't that bad right now.  However at this point I pretty much avoid AAA games so I can avoid the inevitable disappointments like Uncharted 3 and The Last of Us.  If you're a B/C grade gamer like me, things are pretty good.

There are only like two or three people down on Last of Us here.  granted, those of us that like it aren't religious about it, but there was plenty of positivity.  Same for GTAV, Dark Souls, Nintendo, etc.

There are always some people who troll everything because they think its cool to be above everything. That aspect hasn't changed.

I think some of the slight negativity is brought about because there really isn't a great system exclusive on either new launch console. So that dampens some of the excitement. People are looking forward to the new consoles but there isn't any one big thing to get excited about. And current gen already had the big release of the year with GTA 5. There is nothing close to that for the next gen consoles to generate excitement except for the consoles themselves.

I agree with your first 2 statements (not to mention am a bit too busy to even keep up with gaming anymore, lately - work has been crazy along with lots of social obligations) - but could you explain your third statement? I like both blaxploitation and bollywood

Not for me, I've been playing good-to-great games all year - several of which were new releases. 2013's been 10x better than 2012 imo.

what i meant is that indie games want to be the smaller,low budget whimsical brother of videogame like bollywood is to hollywood but they are just exploiting nostalgia like blaxpoitation was a subgenre of exploitation film,it's just that instead of count blackula,it's count beckula

Gaming has never been better, pretty much any genre is covered by AAA and/or indie games, and most older systems are emulated.

As far as hating, I think posters here are more willing to give and accept criticism of games rather than the insular cliques that develop in OTs and gamefaqs boards. It rarely devolves into personal attacks.
