Probably the same as Sony's: Get newest title on launch and run it for as long as they can until they have a "backlog" to run through crap titles.

I'm a bit annoyed they're doing 5+ year old titles right now and not some recent titles along with those older titles as a mix of the two.

True. And that's the one thing that makes it a better offer than Sony's.

I'd rather it be a 5 year and then at least a year old title. Thereby the "statue of limitations"/sales is off and publishers can't really be angry about giving away some titles for free in the hope they get future sales on newer titles. Which seems to work for Sony despite them "renting" the titles.

I'm happy to have digital copies of games I'm mid-way through completion, and have a hard time understanding why anyone ever complains about free games, especially when it's a new feature added to a price they were already paying, with no detriment.

Halo 3 singleplayer was such a weird, disappointing mess; I am still thinking about going in for multiplayer with this freebie, though I imagine the well-chummed waters are thick with n00b giblets at this point.

Yeah the games they've been giving out aren't stellar, but free is free. I tried the Halo 3 multi after having been up to my armpits in MW2 for the past month and came away highly displeased. Game is just way too slow and floaty, reminds me of playing on a low-grav server in HL2:DM or something.

Halo floatiness is so bad, im already dreading that Destiny will be the same.

I played some multi last night, compared to Halo Reach, it's 

Started the campaign on Legendary, was dull as hell. Probably way better in co-op

The only game I have receeived for free is Magic 2013, lol. Everything else I have bought or played.

Also worth thinking about - the extension to the service makes no mention of it being available on the Xbox One, though Microsoft's Pav Bhardwaj has elsewhere suggested that it could "evolve" into something else on next gen consoles.

Well, there's not backward compatibility on Xbox One, and there's not yet a large enough library on which to deliver games for free, right?

People can argue, "bu... bu... bu... Sony does that with the Vita!" but look where that hardware is. :shrug
