This game is pretty awesome, but at the same time it really feels like more of the same CoD even with all its differences and the maps aren't very impressive.

Yeah it's cool but there's nothing really new there except the verticality. Spend most of my time waiting around for my Titan.

Interestingly enough I actually think I'm better at the PC version rather than the console version which is almost unheard of for me.
Sounds like you're becoming a better gamer.

Been playing it and it feels like COD but with more mobility and mechs.

Also killing grunts is kinda lame since they hardly contribute to anything

after playing a bit I think what stoney said on the last page is agreeable, except that I don't mind attrition mode but would prefer a standard time based tdm.  this attrition mode counts grunt kills and you can easily take five or more out in a second (grenade the impact pod, smart pistol); that becomes 5 points towards the 250 point goal.  a match can go by without anything interesting happen with other combatants.

and I think most of my issues with this can be traced back to call of duty or the modern console shooter in general, although this doesn't feel like call of duty, and I liked call of duty.  you have all these mobility options limited by weapons you need to stop and aim with to reliably hit a target.  it gets better when fighting titans and you can be jumping all over the place throwing scrambler grenades and shooting of rockets, eventually rodeoing the mech and such.  but pilot vs pilot isn't great.  well, except for when you manage to jump kick another dude.  that, and almost everything else is pretty fun.

but you can't slide! it's a strange omission when it's in almost every game these days.

Grunts are fodder for getting your mech sooner. They lower the countdown 3 seconds. And while they count for attrition points its not the same amount of points as killing pilots or titans.

I'm already kind of bored of the beta.  The map design is so bland and it just feels like the game is 100% RUN SHOOT RUN SHOOT without any real places to hide or defensive tactics, plus the bots are just stupid.  Maybe it's just been the people I've played with, I dunno.

Played for about 2 and a half hours with friends this morning on xbox.

Had a blast. I understand the game a lot better now. How to conserve health with my titan and regen it. I was sort of going balls out with them like an idiot and losing them very quickly. How I should attack hardpoints and such. Honestly at this point for me it plays very little like COD other than the idea of you shoot people with guns. My moment to moment experience isn't anything like COD. And I actually don't think COD skills necessarily transfer over meaning if you are great at COD you will be great at this. The mech part alone changes that part of the equation as it utilizes a very different skill set.  Speed is blistering. I'm learning to adjust to that now and take advantage of it. I prefer the speed perk over the cloak perk just because of that. I really like it. Think its really fun. It will be in my shooter rotation. (Especially since I won't probably buy another COD until 2015 when Treyarch makes their version)

I had some pretty dominating games once I started to get the hang of things. I'll try to post a good gameplay tonight when I get back on.

its more of a cat mouse game. Hiding from titans and using the parkour agility skills to get away from other pilots. I think it has to do with how everyone plays. Especially in hard point where you're frantically running between points or really helps to know the map. I can stay alive a long time now because I am familiar with the map and can out maneuver others

Having a lot of fun with this so far. I'm doing pretty well each round. Got to level 14 in I have no idea how much time. More than two hours I believe. I lost track.

Titan on titan combat feels good. Really liking the dash, though I wish you would quick-turn instead of dashing backwards. Hawken has one and it's really useful when you're getting ambushed or to make running away easier. Haven't found much use for blindly dashing backwards. As far as weapons go I've been favouring the rifle over the MG and rocket laucher. It feels really useful in any scenario, insta-kills humans and even has some minor splash damage. Also the enemy won't have as much crap to throw back at you with their shield. Not as good at killing titans, but I'm doing OK with the sidearm rockets, especially the lock-on ones.

Person on person combat feels good, too, but you have the usual ADS crap shoot that really rewards getting the drop on people above anything else. Maybe the shotgun or SMG are better suited for running and gunning, I've only played one or two rounds using either. Considering the average distances involved however (and lack of familiarity with the maps) they seem like bad options right now. At least as primary guns. I wish I could have a shotgun to switch to instead of a handgun.
One thing I've noticed: Chasing people is not an option in this game. Unless you can gleam where they are headed it's pointless, as they could be anywhere by the time you round the corner. People stay on the move in most games, but the added mobility in this makes it really difficult to predict where someone's going to be.

Lastly, the AI. I get why they're there, but they could stand to be a LITTLE smarter. They should at least react to gunfire. I also seem them regularly killing what look like teammates. I assume that's just a glitch with the models or something, but it hammers their stupidity home.

Man I was playing with 6 people in the party and we were holding shit down in Domination. We played a bunch and barely ever lost. There was such actual tactical shit going down. Depending on the game sometimes I had to use my Titan to fight off the other Titans and other times I would hop out and let it guard areas so I could take care of other business and run around.

Last Titan standing is also fun because the typical crazy pace slows down to a crawl as you are trying to set up crossfires and constantly sort of pushing and retreating to regen health.

Later today, the teams will be opening up the Titanfall Beta to all Xbox One owners. That means no code will be necessary to download and play the beta. We are really excited to get a good test on all of our systems before launch and encourage you to join in.

To download the beta, sign in to your Xbox One and head to the “New Game Demos” section of the Game Store and it will appear there. You can also say “Xbox Bing” then “Show me game demos”.

However, it all changes once you buckle into a Titan, and in this build we see lengthy passages of play (particularly by the end of a mission) falling within the 35-45fps range.

Quote
"Visually, PC gamers looking for an edge over the console release in terms of lighting, shadows, effects or model detail may be disappointed. Even at the "insane" texture quality setting on PC, the oil rig structures around the Fracture map still share precisely the same washed-out mapping as the Xbox One, while floor mapping is also like-for-like. Much of the game's assets and rendering tech are shared in this sense, right down to the distance of the shadow filtering cascade."

Quote
That said, it's unfortunate that once you stop to have a look around at the arena that the environment appears so clinical. Much of Fracture, for example, is built to a very strict and rigid wireframe, with no evidence of next-gen technologies such as tessellation to round off the more egregious corners. Shading is also largely missing, outside of baked-in shadows and ambient occlusion that fades in we near objects. The two maps shown so far are vibrant and well-suited for the wall-run-and-gunning gameplay, but without these extra layers of detail the whole world come across as a little plain, lacking in dynamic destruction and enhanced environmental detail and animation. It's clear where the emphasis is: Titanfall relies upon the sheer intensity of its action for its measure of spectacle.

yeah, I mentioned this earlier.  it's in enough shooters these days that I instinctively hit crouch after running to slide.  tbh I don't know how much it'd add other than being a cool move to pull off.  maybe it would let you slide under an enemy's titan without getting crushed...maybe in the sequel.

after playing a fair bit my main issue is still the need stand still and aim down sights to hit anything (except for the smart pistol--which is generally balanced--and the shotgun at closer range).  even the mechs need to ads to aim accuracy  :-\  feels like a handicap preventing more mobile encounters between pilots.

and I think that titans are more valued than pilots (or grunts, obviously).  I'd like to see someone attempt a match where one team refrains from calling in a titan.  I bet the pilot-only team would win.

what i'd give for a class with something like the q3a railgun. would instantly solve half my issues with titanfall.

arena style weaponry would all round make this a better game (by my own myopic standards which are probably sales poison).

I mix it up depending on what the situation calls for. They can definitely be useful guards. But sometimes I also just enjoy wrecking with them and running over people.

One of my techniques in domination when I'm guarding or caping a point is to hang from a wall. People don't expect that when they come charging in.

I prefer fighting on foot.  I usually call in my titan as a distraction or try to aim it onto an enemy titan.  Before I noticed how many points it gave up I'd get into fights knowing I wouldn't win until the (surprisingly effective) nuke blast goes off on anyone nearby.  If some dude rodeos my mech, whatever, he'll get caught in the blast eventually.

i've completely adopted this now and barely lost a pilot on pilot encounter since. bunny hopping to the nth degree.

titans are just these marauding nuisances that i try to avoid. kinda a bummer when half the other team is in them and there are no pilots left to go after.

the bots are a horrible band-aid solution to the low player count. i get zero satisfaction from killing them and more often than not all they serve to do is obfuscate the dude who you actually want to shoot at. if there must be bots, they should be clearly identifiable and relentlessly pursuing a defined objective, like a tide that must be stemmed in-between getting your jollies hunting down pilots.
