For real though. Like on the real real? Gaming is fucked this coming gen. 4 hour games, linear experiences that make Uncharted look like a rogue-like, microtransactions and f2p. It's over.

Maybe if you're a dingus who can only enjoy games with a budget of over $50 million, otherwise not really.

I don't buy expensive hardware to play indie games, brah. I like tons of eurojank, and more niche titles though.

I honestly believe Dark Souls II and the Diablo expansion will be the last games I ever play.  Feels good.

I'm relatively sure the D3 expansion will be the last "AAA" game I play.  Gonna be fun to piss on the ashes of the industry.

I'm certain there were more legitimately good, beefy open-world games on 360/PS3 than the previous gens. Nobody sits in front of their TV to do f2p microtransaction games for several hours.

Although I could see the appeal of doing that picture-in-picture while skyping or watching Netflix.

Dark Souls 2 is a definite winner. Not interested in Diablo but MGSV will probably simultaneously restore and deplete all my faith in the AAA games industry when I get my hands on it.

When did AAA evolve to mean big budget?

Back in PS2 era, AAA was all about quality not money

Gonna go out on a limb and say it's probably because there was a smaller variance in game budgets at that time. AAA still had a correlation with production value, but nowadays the budget difference between production-heavy titles and more experimental ones is quite vast.

There were a lot of sea changes this gen, and it isn't like they happened suddenly, this gen has just lasted forever. It's as old as The Bore. Chew on that.

The 360 is actually a year older than The Bore.

I stopped spending money on games and besides a game or two of Tetris here and there, I don't play games anymore.  One of the best decisions I ever made.
