And I've read it doesnt archive the Twitch streams automatically... which I don't understand. I don't get how it would be any different from any regular stream via Twitch and my Twitch streams archive.

Gotta say, the reactions to this launch really strike me as forced nostalgia. These day one purchase folks can't seem to articulate why they need the console DAY ONE. The launch games suck, the consoles are expensive, there really aren't any great games on the horizon until March/April 2014...so what's the rush other than re-creating past memories.

The PS4 fanboys especially. There are no games. Congrats, the PS4 is better than arguably the most anti-consumer console of all time, but is that truly worth celebrating as if it comes with free healthcare and a one month mortgage payment?

Are there really no games?  Exclusives?  Sure there isn't much.  But if you're going to get a 3rd party game there's plenty to play for a while.  Between AC4's 30 hour+ single player, hopefully a good NFS campaign, BF4's MP, NBA2K14 Career mode and online, Resogun, Contrast (no reviews on this one yet?  At least it's free), that's some decent gaming.

I mean for a normal person who plays an hour or two of games a day, there's enough games to last for at least a month or two. 


Compared to most launches (PS3, 3DS, PSP) it actually seems to defy the "no games" meme.

PSP had one of the best launches ever. Lumines, Metal Gear Acid, Ridge Racers, Wipeout Pure, Hot Shots Golf, Mercury.



The only system I think has a better launch lineup is Dreamcast.

Too bad the launch PSP hardware had lots of problems with stuck pixels.  I gave up after exchanging two of them and waited almost two years before buying it again.

A good reason for people to just let next gen cool off a bit is psp vs ds. Two systems launching around the same time (at least in Japan). One had an amazing launch (psp) and the other had a remake of an almost 10 year old game at that point. One had issues with software for most people for a few years despite its amazing software launch, the other went on to become one of the greatest and varied software lineups of all time.

Wait a year or something, then choose.

I think even the Wii U had a better launch lineup than either the PS4 and Xbone.  Sure, most of the games were ports but if you were a Nintard who only played games on Nintendo systems, it was a pretty good deal.

Having paid attention to console launches since the 32/64 bit era, this generation's launch lineup is the worst by far.

Also the PSP launch was fucking amazing.

Also this is one of the first times that the US launch of a system has come way before the JPN launch.  So those Ridge Racers, Gundams and Genjis aren't there to help cushion the western software.  If PS4 launched at the same time as Japan you'd also have Yakuza Isshin and Dynasty Warriors + whatever else gets announced for the JPN launch.  They probably should've waited until their Japan software & Infamous & Driveclub was ready, but oh well.  You can play some stuff now and then some in Feb.

Out of the current ps4 lineup, I am not interested in ANY of the retail titles. Only dd interests me. Drive Club is pushed back, Infamous is 2014. At least with ps3, I'd like to play Ridge Racer 7. That said, ps4 does have an edge and that's in the dd titles.

the GTX 800 series is supposed to be out in Q1 2014 so I would wager probably around mid-spring. I'm holding out for that because the Maxwell series is supposed to be the huge leap.

The PS4 itself is smaller than I expected it to be and is surprisingly very light. 


As for the Gamestop launch, it was pretty uneventful.  There were two weird European dudes laughing at something and trying to take pictures of everyone, but besides them there was only one crazy fanboy type raving about how amazing this was going to be and how remote play was going to be "amazing, son, amazing- imma play my PS4 all over town!  They got that VITA TV in Japan man it must cost like crazy money but yo imma cop it!"  Everyone else was pretty quiet.  One of the clerks was pretty enthusiastic about everything and was asking people what games they got and what they were going to do.  I think I made him feel bad when I responded with "go home, update the system, and go to sleep."

They should have put God of War Ascension, Last of Us, Beyond and GT6 on PS4 re-rendered at 1080p/60fps with some additional effects if they cared about having amazing games at launch.

But from a business standpoint they probably saw that they could release anything at launch and still sell out the system and meanwhile releasing those games on PS3 would bring in $$$ with large userbase.  So, likely makes sense from business perspective even though it's worse for gamers.

Seeing the stuff about NFS struggling to keep 30fps on both systems and frame drops in other games and Infamous aiming for locked 30fps is a little depressing.

Last gen the made the systems just barely powerful enough to do 720p/30fps resulting in games struggling to hit that mark and 600p (CoD), 24fps (Castlevania), and lack of AA and other issues.  This gen it seems like they made the systems just barely powerful enough to do 1080p/30fps resulting in games struggling to hit that mark and we'll probably see a lot of 900p, 24fps, and lack of AA and other issues.


During the X360/PS3 gen, I was sort of hoping we'd hit a power wall next-gen where we have more power than the games really need at 1080p and that games will not struggle to do 1080p/60fps.  Now I'm hoping that PS5/Xbone2 will have enough power to do 1080p/60fps no problem in 5-7 years.  But then who knows, maybe they'll be silly and 4k TVs will be everywhere and suddenly the games will be trying to do 4k resolution/30fps and struggling to hit that mark and see a lot of games at 2k and 24fps.  I kind of wish we'd stop pushing the resolution and just make damn systems powerful enough to render what devs want them to render.


But who knows, maybe once they get used to the PS4/Xbone, games will all be running 1080/locked 30fps with 4x AA no problem.  Or maybe start doing 1080p/60fps.  That would be nice.

Closed box is the problem,not hardware power.Even if consoles had multiple titans you would still see 30fps.There are tons of CG movie techniques waiting to be exploited in real time.But it will take years for them to be implemented into game engines.

One more thing,I bet that tons of launch games were actually developed on PCs(even exclusives) and then shoehorned into consoles.
