speaking of google.
what is the point of a google hangout? it's skewing with my normal sms and mms
I think Google Hangout is just like...Google Chat. Useful if you've a gmail and need to chat with someone. I've conducted job interviews with Chat. It just recently turned into Hangout.
Hangouts is the next gen of Talk/Chat (and the Google+ Messenger app that no one used), mixed with 1 to 10 person free video chats (exportable to YouTube, 'nache.) It has apps for iOS and Android; an extension for Chrome on Windows, Linux, and Mac; and is built into the desktop Google+ and Gmail sites. In Hangouts, online status is less important than in Talk/Chat. What matters is the conversation. All chat threads are persistent and sync near-instantly across all Hangouts installations, and Hangouts will even show you up to where each participant has read. With a Google+ account, you can post photos to the Hangout, and they're all backed up to a private Google+ album that only you and the participants have access too. Hangouts also has over 800 custom-drawn emoji to choose from.
On Android, Hangouts has new MMS and SMS sending capabilities, but they're kept as separate conversation threads for now (and won't use your Google Voice number.) On iOS, Hangouts has full VoIP capabilities and can call any phone over data for free.
