Yo Tearaway is pretty legit

Get the demo if you think I'm full of shit. It's pretty good. Also, like me you might be like "oh shit but it's Media Molecule, I bet the jumping is awful" but fortunately there's no jumping...kinda....you do it with your fingers and it works fine.

In any case I guarantee it's better than anything in the PS4/Bone launch lineup. And it's thirty bucks on Amazon right now so there ya go.

Worth buying a vita for?  I almost got one a few months ago but a quick look at 2014 titles changed my mind.

Yeah, out of trying out PS4, Mario, Zelda, Lightning Returns...it's the game I enjoyed the most from the hour I spent with it.  Love the art style and the new ideas it brings to the table.  Plus it lets me make silly faces and troll game characters which is a major plus.

Worth buying a vita for?  I almost got one a few months ago but a quick look at 2014 titles changed my mind.

Nah.  But there's like 6 games worth playing on the system and you can use it on a portable PS4 if you get one eventually, so if that's worth the money then it's worth the money.

I have way too many good games in my backlog to buy this now, but the demo sold me on buying it once I've cleared through Mario and Zelda. The demo is super fucking long

I like the idea of remote play but it was kinda crap on the PS3.  Have you used it much on the PS4?  Can it do 60fps if a game is capable of  it?

I've also been thinking of getting a shield since I got a $100 coupon when buying my videocards.  It's capable of being hooked up to a TV which is pretty cool since my PC is on a different floor from my TV.  Supposedly Nvidia has improved the streaming drastically since launch and 60fps is now possible if the WiFI is fast enough.

What are those 6 games for Vita?

yeah, the demo was excellent.  the presentation is (gamecube) wind waker/yoshi's island-levels of charming and cohesive.  you get the ability to jump towards the end of the demo, and I've seen videos where you can roll, and you can go back to older levels with those abilities.  first thing I'll play when the vita 2000 comes out in the states.

and sony, of the four family friendly platformers released in fall, Knack is what you put on the PS4?  :ufup

My guess:

Remote play is very playable on PS4.  Compared to the Wii U tablet it's lacking because 30fps and smaller screen.  Wii U tablet comes across way nicer.

But here's the deal with remote play on PS4 with vita:

1)  Vita has shitty controls.  I hate the analog on that thing.  Especially if you're coming from playing a PS4 with the nice DS4 it'll just make the games feel worse.  Using the back touch screen for L2/R2 is bad for most games.  SOME devs who actually put effort in to negate this negative by having good control screens.  Like in AC4 to turn on your eagle vision you tap the bottom left corner of the front touch screen.  This works perfect and is fine.  Killzone is so uncomfortable to play and try to find and hold a rear touchpad section just to run.

2)  Vita streaming looks ugly compared to PS4.  This is simply because the resolution is lower and you can see the streaming compression artifacts and compared to really nice looking 1080p images on your TV with PS4 it looks pretty ugly.  I think the Wii U tablet gets by better here because the games don't look all that amazing on your TV (Mario 3d is the exception) and so you don't notice and don't care much about the graphical hit from playing on the tablet.  Plus the tablet is a bigger screen, maybe higher resolution?, and they seem to handle the compression artifacts a lot better.

All that being said, PS4 remote play will be AWESOME for certain types of games.  Like for rpgs it'll be killer to be able to chill in bed and grind or hell, if it's turn-based, even grind at work or a starbucks over wi-fi.  For games with shitty graphics (aka, a lot of Japan's output for PS4 in the next few years most likely!) it'll be nice to have portable and there won't be much of a visual hit.  For strategy games or puzzle games it'll be perfect.  Just for quick reflex games like action games, racing games, or FPS games the controls will keep it down and for games that are spectacles (aka, look really nice on your TV) it won't be the place where you'll want to be playing them.

tldr: remote play on PS4/Vita is decent, I won't use it much right now, but it'll probably be used a lot in the next 5-6 years, especially for Japanese games.

And the Vita games worth at least $20 and your time to play them for me and from my experience are:

Tearaway
Time Travelers (unfortunately not coming to the US probably >_<)
Uncharted Vita (a lot of people didn't like this so ymmv, but I liked it more than U3 and had a great time with it)
Wipeout Vita
Hot Shots Golf Vita

I haven't played Gravity Rush, Good People Die, Littlebigplanet Vita or Killzone Vita yet, but I heard they're all pretty good too.  Persona 4 Golden is good if you're into replaying 80 hour rpgs in their definitive versions, which I am totally not.  Ys is ok if your a fan of the series, but nothing special.  Also heard some positive on Soul Sacrifice and looking forward to playing it for free on PS+

The Vita lineup is nothing special and it's probably never going to be anything special.  But maybe at best it'll have a Gamecube quality library of games when all is said and done.  Maybe.  I wouldn't recommend it to someone who doesn't have a 3ds, is tight on money, or isn't getting a PS4.

You get the ability to jump near the end of the demo, and it's not floaty nonsense like LBP.

There's a demo? Why didn't they advertise that? I thought there wasn't so I held off. Guess I'll be downloading that later to try it.

Didn't like the demo.

Bebpo, do you have to HOLD the touchpad to run in KZ?  You should be able to just tap it.

Vita has plenty of good games, but it depends on how much you like ports.

Problem is holding the system while not constantly touching the backtouch. Isn't Killzone's sprint on the backtouch? Resistance did it like up on D-pad and front-touch and that was just awkward as hell like Killzones.

Call of Duty did a "two second jog and then sprint" sort of auto-sprint system which was alright for getting around the touch systems but just terrible in general for movement.

Back-touch is the worst thing they introduced on the system.

And them being cheaper on other platforms. That Hotline Miami for $2 on Steam via Humble Bundle.  :'(

I'm no fan of the back touch panel (and was glad it could be completely disabled for Killzone Mercenary), but I have no problem with CoD Ghosts via remote play.  The upper left back panel is mapped to sprint, and they made the touch area smaller for PS4 games, so your finger doesn't keep hitting it by accident.  Works fine.

It's the same price as the PS3 version.  Cross-buy, in fact.  PC stuff is always cheaper in general.  Not the point here...I can't play Hotline Miami PC on a portable system that fits in my pocket.

Can if you're #TeamGreen and willing to splurge for another dead system

But the point I'm making is: It's cheaper on other platforms and regularly that cheap. Sony doesn't match that price, so why should I pay the "portable tax" when I can just get it on Steam/iPhone/etc. for less than that?

I dunno, I'd say the first hour of Tearaway is better than the entire 30 hours of Skyward Sword.

It's $20 on GS website as well. You can PM it if you have a physical ad, or probably online as well. You cant use Amazon because they arent "selling" it right now, unfortunately.

Lame. I paid double that on PSN about a week ago because I wanted to check it out. Didn't think there'd be this drastic of price reductions already. I should have known better: it's a Vita game.
