Not much really stood out for me. Most of my favorite composers are washed up now. I've heard some great osts this gen but nothing really that stuck with me compared to previous generations aside from Mario Galaxy.

So I'm going with Mario Galaxy.

Galaxy does have amazing music. It's one of the games mentioned every four months when we have this thread. I usually post Nier and Deus Ex Human Revolution in these threads. For the sake of consistency:

The Skyrim theme is dumb as shit and I hate it and how many times I had to hear it for the entire year after the game's release.

The soundtracks for Demon's Souls, Resonance of Fate and Gravity Daze are all great.

Yeah, most western games have really boring sweeping orchestrations or licensed music. Using melodies is severely underrated.

Red Dead Redemption soundtrack is pretty awesome, it's one of the few game soundtracks I can listen to like regular music

Bioshock had amazing atmosphere. Much of it was due to the music which always seemed right for the moment.

These songs helped to create one of the greatest opening moments in gaming,

Yes, definitely. I think my favorite, though, was The Docks, especially that moody seaside shanty that fades in and out of the background:

Shatter was one of my favorite soundtracks this gen. The game itself was a decent Arkanoid-style game with a few gimmicks here and there, but the soundtrack by Module is what really stands out:

Mirror's Edge was one of the only western "AAA" soundtracks I liked (I don't particularly care for those bog-standard symphonic movie-soundtrack-wannabes that the typical non-indie western game loves so much). Doesn't hurt that it was by awesome ambient/psytrance producer Solar Fields.

Lumines: Electronic Symphony has one of the best licensed soundtracks ever.

For others mentioned in this thread already, Hotline Miami, Nier and Xenoblade.
