The great thing about mobile and portable game development is that the expectations are lower (much lower for mobile) in terms of development commitment from the staff.

Essentially, Capcom wants to invest heavily in the smartphone gaming realm as an avenue for future growth opportunities. Capcom's mobile sector has been lagging recently, and they want to invest in it to increase their operating margin in that area.

The president of Capcom says the way for Capcom to dedicate resources to mobile development (in terms of both expertise and flexibility) is to increase the percentage of in-house development dedicated to it. To this end, Capcom is using 4 billion JPY ($39.1 million) of the revenue from Monster Hunter 4 to create a new studio in Osaka (where Capcom's HQ is located), and they are ramping up development staff accordingly.

The new center in Osaka still has a possibility of being multi-purpose, though.

Thanks,3DS owners.

The MH3U iOS/Android port actually looks pretty decent so I'm not surprised. The more MH the better. If they make MH5 mobile-exclusive I'd only want controller support on Android. Might even buy a Shield for dat shit.

Can't speak to the controls but the graphics/content seem fairly accurate.

Edit- Oh yeah iOS only. Fuckers.

eh i'm not sure that's an actual MH3U port as much as a different game made from random bits of random MH game's... nonetheless it certainly looks more like a MH game than the one i posted :heh

I am under absolutely zero illusions that MH next destination is Mobile Phones - and with a ton of IAP.

Because CAPCOM

Yeah, you should double-down on that bet, if you can find any takers.

They should a giant dead horse monster, so the players can beat the hell out of it too.

I just ask for no dumbing down of the controls, same amount of content as MH4, and an Android port with decent controller support.

Andy says while:

Anyway if Capcom goes mobile: I honestly couldn't care at this point. With the amount of fucking things up that I liked from them in IP's that I enjoyed from them? I wouldn't miss them. *shrug* Similar to if Square went under.

Honestly,at this point, ignoring smartphone market is just plain stupid.

It is stupid. Especially if you are a company that's a few decades old and have a bunch of old art assets/IP's laying around doing nothing.

personaly i hope investing more money translate into seeing less skinner box games, capcom has thrown so many of them out, heck here's the latest one just released a bunch of weeks ago

I don't think you'll ever see those games go away, it's become a genre at this point. They are so prevalent that there is a fanbase that strictly plays those types of games.   Jumping from one to the other.  Similar to what we saw with Korean MMO's in the 00's.

All you can hope for is one or two more 'traditional' games developed alongside those. Squarenix has kind of done this. Although, I wouldn't hold them up as a model company.

It isn't stupid. What do you want them to do? Mobile is a good means to re-up on money and much better than resorting to another mediocre console title. After that, they can reinvest that mobile money into console money. This is a good move, as Capcom are in a dire situation.

At present, Capcom has just over $152 million in cash, which isn't much for a company attempting to navigate the costly transition to a new hardware generation and the company-wide implementation of a service-based infrastructure.

This is a smart move.

Everybody always says "Oh, X company made a ton of money by targeting Y audience, now they'll be able to put more money into games for Z audience!" and it very rarely ever plays out like that.

See: Nintendo, Valve, ect.

Well I think we can be sure that Resident Evil 7 and Street Fighter 5 will be console titles.

Only Street Fighter 5 and Resident Evil 7.

Those other franchisees.....well I don't know about those. That's what sucks.

Himu

They've got Deep Down in the works. Just be patient, hope they make good games, and support those good games. If they don't make good games, why buy them? And if they aren't making any good games, why lament them going mobile? They'll still likely be making bad games, mobile or not. Seems a lot of effort to stress over such small matters.

Nintendo 2013 game developed/published list:

Fire Emblem Awakening
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Pikmin 3
New Super Luigi U
Zelda: Wind Waker HD
Pokemon X/Y
Zelda: A Link Between Worlds
Super Mario 3D World
Crashmo
HarmoKnight
The Wonderful 101

Capcom:

Ace Attorney 5
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Monster Hunter 4
Sengoku Basara 4 (out soon)

Again, support good games. You don't support good games. Thus, you have no right to bitch. You just argued that Nintendo didn't reinvest their money in their core games, when this year, they are arguably, without a doubt, the best publisher and developer by a far margin. Again, stop playing the bullshit console war crap, and start playing good games. I realize this is too hard to ask.

Eh, you played plenty of Path of Exile and Torchlight 2, and put 500 hours into a - at the time - broken game so you're really not one to talk about that.

Yeah, it's about me enjoying Animal Crossing. You know, the most played game of 2013 on Bore, short of GTAV. The one that Treesong had Nich Maragos write a article on his site for. You know, that bad game that everyone played and enjoyed.
