Think I survived the massive ice storm that eliminated power all over Michigan

got down to 42 in the house, stopped worrying about food in the fridge

but dem PC temps for the first hour when the power finally came back after two and a half days  :lawd

Janus :(
Snow storms named after famous bond villains are never good http://www.wunderground.com/news/winter-storm-janus-state-impacts-20140121

I walked my kid into school this morning only to have the one administrator there look at me like an idiot for not knowing school was canceled and the storm was coming. One of the drawbacks of being a recluse who doesn't watch tv I suppose :'(

walked outside into 14 degrees

"this isn't so bad"

walked on the sidewalk of an open street with wind whipping the cells off my face

"oh god i'm gonna die my face is going to fall off and shatter into 1000 pieces"

There was a kid in my elementary whose mother would make him walk to school on snow days so it wouldn't interrupt his schedule.

He later killed himself :(

Hail doesn't even qualify as big unless it can dent a car or smash the singles off a roof.

It doesn't look like it's gonna be that bad in NY and NE. She'll probably be fine.

Yeah, that's what she saw earlier today.

She has a layover in Detroit, though. Her company has a policy where only so many employees are allowed on any single flight, so she got bumped from the Seattle non-stop to a layover in Detroit. Hopefully that doesn't create a problem.

Detroit looks to be even further away from the storm, so hopefully it'll go smoothly. Also, what is up with that policy?

Detroit got hit last night and apparently there will be more today. We were blasted last night as well.

The most annoying thing is that when the snow trucks do the roads, they pile up a few extra inches right at driveway entrances. And by morning it's a slushy, icy abomination that I have to use a metal shovel to remove.

I don't think it'll be big enough to delay planes n shit, which happened a few weeks ago. But the roads were definitely fucked up last night/this morning, and we're getting more inches tonight.

Gundam: I'm guessing she'd be at Detroit Metro, if there's a layover? I was there last week lol.

Also, what is up with that policy?

If there's a plane crash, they minimize the number of employees lost. Uplifting stuff.

Yeah, no problems in Detroit. I'm guessing her flight is almost to Boston by now. She's got to lead a presentation tomorrow morning in Portsmouth and was kinda nervous that she'd get stuck somewhere along the way.

I thought this was the case, but decided to maybe display some tact.

No worries. We joke about it since she flies to Boston every 5-6 weeks. Hooray for gigantic insurance companies who don't believe in anything important happening at any other location in the world. Oh well, at least we don't have to move to Boston.

Glanced out the window and saw snow everywhere. I did a double take, thought I was dreaming or something. Everything looked fine merely 30 minutes ago.  :lol

Thankfully it seems the "massive snowstorm" they predicted two days ago is not only A) not massive at all, but B) going to miss most of Boston anyways.

Yep. My wife is in Boston this week for work, so she was quite relieved.
