I work with kids that have the potential to do this, but we've got them in specific programs that directly focus on these behaviors.

Can we start charging parents for criminal negligence when they leave their guns out and their kid shoots up a school.

Yeah, I am not a fan of guns, but I also recognize that they're not going to go away in American society. There's too much tied up in the issue.

I feel like a lot could be made up for if there were mandatory courses or competency tests given for using and storing them. I mean, we have all manner of regulations about who can drive a car. There are tests before licenses are given out, and then car insurance is needed to legally drive one around. But if you want a gun, SURE, HAVE ONE. HAVE FIVE!

See, I'd be fine with more safeguards protecting the ownership of guns.  Do I like the fact that I can walk into any KY gun shop with cash and literally walk out of the place in 5 minutes with whatever gun I want and ammo?  Yes.  Does it terrify me sometimes?  Hell yes.

Competency tests, accuracy tests, "when to draw your weapon" testing, give it all to me.  I'm fine with that.

I feel like almost anyone who owns a gun and regularly goes shooting is self-aware enough to realize that waiting periods and gun registration records won't make your life that much more inconvenient.

But there's that minority who is distrustful of the government and sees guns as the only way to fight back if a revolution ever comes. The truth is that good gun laws don't target the guns, they target the owners. To prevent those who are not sane, law-abiding citizens from getting their hands on one.

I agree. Gun owners have been clawing back way too many of the restrictions that were passed within the past twenty years. Time to put a stop to that much, at least.

When Obama's jackbooted ATF/FBI/CIA/NSA/EPA/SEC/NASA/FRBNY thugs take away all the guns, I'd support federal funding to provide new hobbies to folks like drew, who have no sense of identity outside their guns.  It would only be fair.

where are you getting your feels from?  the thinness of outer space? self projection?

waiting periods treat everyone like they have ill intent and is silly, here in Ohio I enjoy the freedom of being able to go home with what I bought like everything else.

also registration often leads to confiscation. while there are numerous historical references to back this up it is actually also going on right now in New York:

"no sense of identity outside of guns"

you can't be serious

it's not like you're taking a stab in the dark in some youtube comments here, I post here all the time, just got into guns in the past few years

one thing about me is that I always have a lot of hobbies and passions, sure when I get into something I REALLY get into it but I think that's good.  Have people in my life that have no hobbies or passions and I don't understand them, I mean what's the point?

I said ALMOST anyone is self aware enough. You have to be an idiot to bring a gun into New York without checking if it follows the gun laws in a state with some of the strictest gun control. I think that gun owner knew exactly what he was doing.

Waiting periods may not help but universal background checks even for private sales are a very reasonable thing.

huh?

I don't think you understand...that man wasn't "bringing his guns into New York", he was a resident of the state who had those guns previous to the SAFE act that was recently put into effect.  Because of gun registration they were able to bring up a list of people and their guns that violated this new rule and sent letters to them demanding them to be turned in or destroyed.  No grandfathering into the new phase at all.

and yes, it also applies to six shot revolvers. utterly ridiculous.

Yeah, you're into knives as well.

not into knives anymore, that was a silly phase that I'd like to get my money back from.  I carry a Spyderco Salt everyday (and use it EVERY day, most days 30+ times at my job) the cool thing about the salt is that it has no carbon in the steel meaning that it will never rust, so I can wash and sanitize my knife like any other kitchen tool and not worry about it.

I still have like 10 pocket knives that I have no use for, and would like to sell or trade them. I'm over buying stuff just to buy it, I only like to have one of everything I need, and if I have a backup it's a cheap knock around.
