Was it good? :ohhh I remembered being interested in it then forgot about it when it came out, did it end up being a flop?

It's not great, but it'll scratch that shitty LOTR beat-em-up itch. And I think it must have flopped pretty bad, cuz it got slashed to bargain bin prices really fast.

Yeah, I'm not familiar with the books but aren't Tolkien heroes supposed to be more noble than that? This guy comes off as too close to Kratos with all the cruelty and angst. I mean, this is there in pretty much any orc/goblin encounter in the movies that I can recall, even up until the newest one, but I guess it seems more pronounced here since there's no other characters to cut to. Also hard to get hyped up after the last two games that Monolith shit out were a middling Batman F2Pish FPS and a LOTR MOBA.

That being said, the clip looked promising and I'd be cool with a competent next-gen Middle Earth extended universe Arkham/AssCreed clone.

The Nemesis system sounds interesting but I am guessing the vast majority of people don't play through these games more than once so it seems like a bit of a waste.

Playing AC4 right now makes me feel like this is just more AC.  Other things look good though so hopefully they make it feel more unique.

So is this essentially a LOTR-esque take on Asscreed (mixed with what looks like Kingdoms of Amalur)?

Sounds interesting, but not something I will probably pick up until it goes on a 75% sale on Steam.

Yeah, I’m appreciating iOS for adding a password check every time I want to buy something. The 360 just says, “OK, the credit car ending in NNNN will be billed...”   :maf My son hasn’t pulled this on me yet, but he’s been close. “Let’s get that! Does that cost money?”

So far, anything with a System Dialog popping up, he knows enough to not hit “OK.”

well, i guess the XF Jr the 2nd knows more about games than me then

after the utter horror show of FIFA 2015 (... a game that is so critically flawed it made me wish for a FIFA that really was the last year entry but with the updated presentation and graphics), i think perhaps i should just hand over the pursestrings

This game isn't bad at all - it's not going to win any awards, but seems a decent hack and slash (or - Batman Of the Rings i guess). The Orc system seems pretty good too - i was actually motivated to boot the crap out of one of the Captains who was getting in my face and had been promoted up the ranks.

Lots of fun hijinx like setting a beast free and watching it rip orcs to bits too.

I played for about 3 hours - which is probably more than most games i'll play these days.

This gets "not terrible" out of "metacritic"

yeah, i got... um... trolled.... by an orc....

he picked me off a few times and made it up to level 16 and everytime i bumped into him he talked -mad- sh1t

So i brutalised him - instilled fear - and he tried to run away but i demolished him.

The whole idea that once you slay one, there's just going to be another sh1t talker there to take his place is an apt analogy for something....

Some of the combat is brutal - it's still got that batman "warp all over the place and break animation frames" thing going on , but lopping off a few heads inbetween parries? Yes... yes.... #thumbsup

FFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

This looks fun even though I'm not a fan of AssCrud gameplay. There's actually several games coming out soon-ish that I'm interested in- this, Evil Within, Borderlands Pre-Sequel, and Dragon's Age. Can't get em all, tho.

(also, if I can't figure out why my new pc isn't working I'd have to play them on my old one or the PS3 as applicable. GROSS.)

game is set up so you can play it however you want - the closest i get to Asscrud is climbing the towers to strike anvils and then jumping off - other than that i am straight up balling walking towards groups of Uruks and slashing them to ribbons (or getting my ass kicked accordingly). It'S playing out like Batman of the Rings - including janky warping and animation breaks but it's still fun as f--k. Nothing beats decap'ing some gobshite uruk as you're blocking and parrying through a huge crowd.

The archery side is pretty decent too - oh and so is riding one of those dog things and ripping someone to shreds.

I -hate- stealth in games, but even in this it's pretty great. Some of the best missions have been to get into a certain place without someone raising the alarm. You can go full stealth - or you can Rambo in and just murder anyone remotely looking like raising the alarm. :bow.

Hobbitzissss.

also in that giantbomb video they mention the nemesis system is absent from the last gen ps3/360/wii u(???) versions.  isn't that the entire draw of the game?

Were you in one of the strongholds? They really seem to like to congregate in those spots, especially the eastern and southern ones.
