The two I knew are too, probably most of those presenting are. Or philosophy. You only really find libertarians in small niches of political science, you're much more likely to find a Rick Santorum Rockefeller Republican hybrid* in the rest of it. The remaining vestiges of political theory is more liberdopian friendly but most of that's just moved over into philosophy departments anyway since it's easier to publish and get noticed (since people like to argue against you if anything) unlike Political Science where you just trumpet getting published and nobody ever reads it or cites it and you really should stop checking that one thing that shows the number of citations of your work and you're taking a sabbatical because you feel burned out huh?

*These are the weirdest and creepiest and most fervent people I've met. Mostly about three topics, abortion, Free Market Business Subsidies and STRONG DEFENSE. And they all wear boat shoes. No wonder they loved Dick DeVos. One of them got elected to a local position and within a year was facing charges for more or less abusing the equivalent of franking privileges. Apparently Drain Commissioners can't mail their own monthly newsletter on national political topics to everyone in the area on the taxpayers dime. Who knew? Damn big government.

Yes, as fun as it is to mock Internet Objectivists you have to see the real life true believers who have probably met Peikoff (or seen him across the room) in person to truly grasp just how right their philosophy is about everything in the universe.

I honestly think there is something to Objectivism and Libertarianism which draws engineers to it. I don't know any libertarians who are not engineers, except for Doug Stanhope, and I don't know him personally (I just play him on TV).

If I were to give a non-negative theory it would probably be the logic. If you agree with the axioms and premises it all follows pretty naturally from that. (Except for abortion.)

Objectivism is like the desire for "objective reviews that agree with me" crowd. It's the totalitarian ideology that will either just breathlessly critique you for being so wrong for not understanding the underlying truth of all things or bomb you moral savages from 30,000 feet if it has that power.

EDIT: Not to give the impression I only dislike Objectivists, there are plenty of libertarians I don't like, probably more because they're less amusing than they are making you go "ugh" like the NO GAY MARRIAGE ones. But at their heart I've found most Objectivists to be eager to deploy violence against non-believers.

Easiest way to tell when first meeting one is like say the Bundy thing, a libertarian is likely to say something like I hope they don't but if the government does move in him and his militia can defend itself. An Objectivist wants the government to move in because that means it's time to destroy the collectivists, and maybe the Bundy militia should preemptively attack.

Like 80% of Objectivists I'm familiar with love it when we drone weddings overseas because those people were supporters of the regime that harbors terrorists who hate America, and the proof of their support is that they haven't moved or overthrown the regime thus they are not supporters of liberty like American cruise missiles. Provided they aren't ranting about how Ron Paul hates liberty because he hates America because he said in a debate that America deserved 9/11. (Which he didn't, just expressed standard blowback theory.)
