BORE-CON 2016 RECAP
Friday
First night we met up we went to
Sage at the ARIA hotel because it was one of the two(?) places in Vegas with an absinthe bar.

It was a
fancy restaurant with
fancy prices.

The absinthe menu had a great chart to help you decide which one to get. All restaurants should have this for their wines, beers, and cocktails IMO. I ordered
Le Tourment Verte since it was flowery like me (I'm gay.)

The mobile absinthe bar was impressive, and I think the waitress did a good job. Obviously Kara felt different though.

("Did she pour it over the sugar cube?" and "I should have told her not to light mine on fire.")

My first absinthe ever! It was licorice-y but not too bad in that aspect. Was sweet overall. Kara pounded two of his before we ended up leaving. I forgot which one he ordered, but according to the waitress "Only two places in the entire United States are allowed to sell it."
During this time before our food came we recorded a short Cruncheon about the merits of the Sega Saturn. Kara and bebpo were pretty passionate about selling it as an underrated arcade machine-focused console, when my previous impression was of a Sonic-less behemoth whose only great game was
NiGHTS Into Dreams.

Dinner was amazing! And not as expensive as I feared. I got the King Grilled Salmon and it was p. divine.

For dessert I got a strawberry tart, which was also amazing.

From there we headed to Planet Hollywood since it was the mid-point between the ARIA and Bally's where we were staying. Kara played craps while bebps and I got drinks ($14 cocktails and neat whiskeys for me and Kara, respectively. Not sure how expensive bebpo's beers were.) Kara won $50 I believe, but could have won a lot more if he hadn't done something too early (ask him for details, I don't know how craps works.)

DJ, and there's a scantily-clad dancer in the background. They were all over the place here. No guys tho. :'(

Forgot I took this pic haha. We must have spent two hours standing and talking before finding a good spot to sit. I believe this conversation might have been about NeoGAF moderators.
Posted this pic in the "post your pic" thread. Took this one at 2:53am.

It was shortly after this that Rich the Drug Dealer sat down in our area and yacked our ears off for 20 minutes about stupid shit before getting down to his illicit business offers. I ordered some kind of Jameson-based shots and Kara ordered tequila shots.
Trying to drunkenly take a Snapchat on the way back from peeing.
I made bebpo take this Snapchat for me while Kara was in the restroom.

Think this was right after. I take a lot of Snapchats when I'm drunk (which is dangerous sometimes.

)
About an hour after that, we left for Bally's and split with Kara when we got there. bebpo and I really wanted to gamble so we stumbled down into the penny slots area and tried to drunkenly fumble $20 bills into them. Getting nowhere, I suggested we call it a night (at 5:30am.) I walked up to my elevator but bebpo ditched me and said he was going to try a different one.
The next day, I felt bad because if bebpo had been kidnapped or sold for organs it would have been on me.

But it turned out alright.

All told I had one absinthe, eight rum n' cokes, and two shots that night. Felt it the next morning, but not as much as bebpo. :'(
Saturdaybebpo and I were pretty hungover Saturday so we mostly stayed in our hotel rooms. I think bebpo took a walk but in his words, "It was a mistake."

Poor bebps. Kara walked around and stayed in the Indigo Lounge at Bally's I think, before hitting up a rare bookstore and a cigar shop.

We met up later that night because bebpo bought us all tickets to the "Puppetry of the Penis" show at this fine establishment. On the way there we were accosted by a super-aggressive cab driver who repeatedly drove up to us asking to take us to a strip club, even when we could see our destination less than a block away. He ended up driving up to us three times, and on the third time (literally next to the parking lot of our destination) actually drove a little forward to cut us off when we tried walking in front of him. Kara was pissed.

We arrived a little late after underestimating the time to walk there (it was near Trump Tower, or as one of the performers said, "Here, we put the dicks behind the asshole."

) But no biggie, all we missed was part of the opening warm-up act comedian. She was actually pretty riotous.
The "puppetry" from the name of the show is more accurately "origami." The two naked dudes on stage would twist, wrap, and contort their shaft and scrotums into various forms, sometimes with props. (My favorite was a small cutout of Miley Cyrus holding onto their dicks and swinging on their balls while "Wrecking Ball" played in the theater.)
The audience was explicitly told to record one of the final "tricks" they performed, so here you go for that:

It was mostly an hour of that. A lot of it honestly looked pretty painful.

Kara and I debated about the genital deformation that could occur over time with as much stuff they were doing. Hopefully they're making some good money.

bebpo was still feeling pretty rough so we went straight back to Bally's after the show. Kara and I grabbed a bite to eat at
Buca Di Beppo (no relation), an Italian joint in Bally's that forces your entire table to order the same thing. I unintentionally ordered both of us tomato mozzarella and cheese ravioli, but thankfully Kara didn't seem to mind.

I got him started on his opinion of the European Union and its future and I honestly should have recorded it cause it would have made for a great podcast.

After we finished bebpo messaged us about wanting a group pic since the STL meetup had one and thankfully my boyfriend had gotten in earlier that day to snap it for us.

I didn't end up seeing the other guys depart the next morning, but we all said our farewells that night. If I had to do it again, I wouldn't have stayed out so late Friday, and saved a little for Saturday, but ah well. Friday was super epic and one I'll always remember, just like this Bore-con in general.
Once we decided on Las Vegas last year I couldn't wait, and I knew that there was a possibility of no one else showing up so in January I resolved to go no matter what. I'm super grateful Kara and bebpo drove for hours to meet up with me. Because of that, I can definitely call this Bore-con a success.
With that said, I'm starting to get excited about the prospect of going to London next year. You better not wimp out, Lager!
