This looks like the right forum to talk about it. Pandemic and San Juan. What are some of your favorite board/card games?

Settlers of Catan and Ticket to Ride are great if you haven't played them to death already.

MAF i plays tons of board games online,in fact you can play both pandemic and san juan on this site i know called brettspielwelt

http://www.brettspielwelt.de/

as for what i like... i'm fond for race for the galaxy,it's basicaly san juan but better... wait,if you like san juan why you aren't playing race for the galaxy? what the fuck is wrong with you? there! download this

http://keldon.net/rftg/

innovation is another game i played often, you play with 105 cards representing technologies, the game is divided in 10 deck and each deck represent an era... player start at the first era with things like "the wheel" and "metalworking" and slowly work their way upward until they invent more usefull thing like the internet!

cool, didn't know they had digital versions outside iOS ports. I need to grab the physical version to play with my friends though. They have ticket to ride and a bunch others but I need more than a D&D game and Ascension at my place I think.

http://boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/140673/the-exhaustive-list-of-board-games-you-can-play-on

Board game arena (libertalia,t'zolkin, tokaido, hive) brettspielwelt (pandemic,7 wonders, kingdom builder, powergrid) and yucata (yucata is play by turn which mean turns are taken when people feel like it and playing can be a chore... games include rattus,at the gates of loyang, egizia) are the three most populated site and as such the one where it's easier to find somebody to play with

there's also this digital version of talisman for 15$ on steam... currently it's an early access release but it's still playable online with other people

Catan and Ticket to Ride are the big boiz, and they're awesome. Carcassone is similar and super fun, especially if you can get some of the expansions. Also, Munchkin is a lot of fun and takes next to no time to pick up.

PS CAH is the worst.

Given my background, I'm really fond of card based deckbuilding/drafting games, and for me I'd rank them in the following order:

Dominion
7 Wonders
Ascension

I haven't played any a while, though.

Also, I want to shout out to Power Grid, which is Monopoly done right. (read: actually fun)

I just uuuuuuuuuugh. It's the only thing anyone ever wants to play, and it's like Reddit Humor: The Game. It's like the perfect game for people who actually think Borderlands 2 is funny.

BUT THAT'S JUST ME.

I can't complain about it IRL because it's somehow a grave social offense, so I do it here.

Oh yeah, 7 Wonders and Dominion are also pretty dope.

CaH is a fun game, but I like a game with systems that folks can get better at with each session #LOLZNERDS. That said, I will never be 'that guy' and turn down a game of CaH when offered.

Yeah, I'll take drunk Apples to Apples over drunk CaH to be completely honest.

Agricola and Catan are staples with my  friends. My wife dominates at Agricola.

We also play CaH, but I get burnt out after two or three rounds. It just loses it's luster and I need a break. Or a shower.

I hate CaH but I have many friends who love it so I end up playing it quite a bit.  I don't like Apples to Apples either.  I think I prefer Dixit which uses a similar mechanic but it's based on images rather than words.

I have a few friends we play games with and our current obsession is Pathfinder Adventure Card Game which is all of the fun of Pathfinder encounters without all of that whack finding excuses to roll some dice.  Hell of a lot of fun.

Most of my board gaming is done on iOS as it's easier to find opponents that way.

Oh shit, I forgot about Dixit. If I recall correctly it encourages you to try and have most, not all, the other players guess the right card based on your hint. It kinda turns into a reverse Apples to Apples thing where you try to pick out references and clues you know some people WON'T understand.

i know of a site where you can play dixit too but it's not too much populated (site also has agricola and castle of burgundy as far as popular board game go)

http://boiteajeux.net/

alternatively there is vassal... this is a virtual tabletop that let you play pretty much anything you want as long as you find people willing to play with you including this game here

Mechanically CAH isn't interesting at all, but A) it's easy to get people who aren't really "into" games to play it, B) I really like awful shit, and C) since there's really no "point" to playing it's easy to abandon for something else if you get bored. I've yet to have a bad time playing it.

CaH serves its purpose as a game that requires very little intellectual investment and is driven by enough tongue in cheek horrible culture to be accessible by anyone that's had at least two drinks. There is nothing wrong with the game- that said, too much CaH IS a bad thing.

I personally have been on a kick to get some real games into our household that arent Life or Monopoly. For us we have to limit what we can play since it's usually just the two of us. That leaves out a lot of games that aren't well designed for having small player groups.

So far our house favorites have been:

Nuts
Flux
Pentago http://www.pentago-online.com/

We've been looking into other games, but most require 3+ players. I've played a lot of the games previously mentioned and really liked Arkham horror.

The Omega Virus was always one of my favorites. You and up to 3 other people are astronauts on a space station that has been infected by the deadly OMEGA VIRUS. You have to go around the station collecting items that will help you to defeat the Omega Virus. It's really fun because it is both cooperative and competitive, you're all working to defeat the virus, but the only winner is the one who actually defeats the virus so you can attack the other players to stymie their progress. The whole time the Omega Virus is insulting you and attacking you as well. There is a time limit, after so many moves the virus shuts down 1/4 of the gameboard, then another 1/4, until all four section are shut down and everyone loses.

Sadly I don't think it is made anymore.  :(
