What keeps your fire burning?
« on: January 05, 2014, 09:18:00 AM »
I know that a bunch of you are older and more experienced than I am so I am curious to know how you guys feel about life at the stage you are in. Once you have seen and done most of it what is it that keeps you going? Do you still have dreams? hobbies? How do you feel about the time that you are spending? What do you look forward to and are any of those things things you think about? I would love to hear some voices on this, it might be comforting to know about your experiences with life so far.

The best part of getting older is that you quit thinking about that bullshit. There's kids, mortgages, vacations, aging parents to worry about.

What is my alternative? I've tried suicide a couple times and that shit is wack. I don't need a fire to continue living. Death is terrifying. Life is cool tbh.

The older I get and more responsibilities I have in life, the less I care about things.

The anticipation of George RR Martin finishing ASOIAF. I can't stop trucking until I read the last book. After that who cares. My children will take care of me.

Responsibilities and obligations. Everything else becomes cherries that make the ride just a little sweeter.

Honestly I think I am starting to feel just like most of you. Sometimes i find it very troubling and depressing and other times I feel peaceful and some how find satisfaction in it. I think the reason I have been asking those questions is because I think I am starting to relate a bit more to adults than teens. Its as if I do not want to accept the situation as it is because that will kill the naiveness and dreamfullness of the younger me that I somehow still carry with me. Kind of like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly except I don't know which one is uglier and I can't make up my mind about it.

Do you live on your own and have a full time job to support yourself?

I'm in a good place so no worries. I worked as a licensed welder for a while and I can get a job like that again without much trouble when and if i feel that I want to. I am doing some courses in college right now, some math and chemistry. Planning on applying to an engineering program at a uni here in Sweden after summer. I am sharing an apartment with an old and good friend of mine who has similar goals and is in the same boat as me. University life sounds exciting to me and it is definitely keeping my ''fire burning''. Besides that all i got to do is piss clean once a week to prove that i am not a drug addict to continue my adhd diagnoses, only two or three times left. So spring is looking good for me, single first time in 2 years and I feel that i can keep myself happy.

It doesn't get boring or simple, there are always new things to challenge, problems to confront, and things to enjoy.

Life's still a pain in the ass, but it beats the alternative, and the bad times aren't as harsh, and the good times are a lot more deep and complex for me.

but tbh, I've recently come up with some crazy tech/design/creative/social ideas that have got me unhealthily enthralled and will probably keep me engaged & obsessed & frustrated & heartbroken for another good thirty years or so
