Whats good and cheap software to build a nice website?

Anyone got any tips on this stuff? As I will be soon unemployed (well except for part time sales job maybe) and living in a foreign land with nothing better to do then to learn the language I think it's time to open some kind of website/shop/something.

I'm looking to make a clean designed website with loads of big images (as I currently work with images this is something I might want to expand on).

Notepad++ is free. The same goes for Wordpress which is really easy to use if you don't want to build everything from scratch.

What about some video editing software? I'm not talking anything complex here. Just images, soundtrack etc.

There are plenty of free alternatives. It's easier to recommend software if you mention your experience with coding and the OS you plan to work with.

Wordpress themes look nice.

Is there any way to combine that kind of easy to make package with a real URL (no wordpress stuff)?

This is for monetization purposes as they don't allow any code on the site and custom ads.

Sure, you can install Wordpress on your private server or rent hosting from a company. Installing a new theme is trivial, but if you want ads you need to modify some code and/or install additional plugins. You can find all the information you need by Googling. If you don't intend to learn the full process then I suggest you hire someone to build the website for you.

eh, Content Managers are the way to go these days. Drupal, Plone, etc. But you'll need mysql, php, etc to run it. But after you have it installed and running on your server its super easy to edit, change, code to.

Sublime Text is way better than Notepad++.

It's free. You can optionally pay for a license like a donate version. It nags you once in a while and you don't lose any features. It's a far superior piece of software.

Making a portfolio site? Get a nice wordpress theme and chuck it up on your host of choice. Saves hella time and looks gud. I like these ones a lot http://themebeans.com/

I've been working on my lodges website and used drupal, I haven't made it active yet. But I might try wordpress to see if I like that better.

It's possible that Drupal is a better choice, but Wordpress should require less effort.
