The Replacements :lawd

Not terrible for the rest either.  Outkast, HAIM, the Knife, Neko case, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, MGMT, Mogwai, Warpaint, Washed Out, Future Islands, Ty Segall, Foxygen...pretty darn good.

Except Muse

The people who design both the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals; overall art direction are awful.  Our designers looked at what they sent over to us and just laughed

I don't know 80% of the bands on there.

Last year was the first time I went and it was fucking awesome.  Probably the most fun I had in 2013.  Janelle Monae, Sigur Ros, Of Monsters and Men, Vampire Weekend, Stars, Grimes, The Descendants, Passion Pit, Tegan & Sarah, Portugal The Man, The Postal Service; lots of great bands for my indie folk/rock/pop tastes.

This year the only bands I listen to on there are Grouplove, Arcade Fire, Beck and my gf is a Sleigh Bells fan so I know their stuff.

Otoh, even though I don't know most of the bands, sampling them off spotify...there's a lot of good ones on there.  So it's probably a good lineup, just not stuff I listen to.  So gonna try to get tickets tomorrow and use it as a chance to discover a lot of new bands to get into.

Was hoping Nine Inch Nails would play since people were saying they had a gap in their tour right when Coachella was, and would've liked Janelle Monae to come back to promote her Electric Lady album, eh, oh well.

I read the entire list and literally the only one I recognize is Glitch Mob. :usacry

Outkast and Replacements would probably be playing at the same time. :fbm These festivals are pretty much junk in the morning/midday and then all the good shit you'd want to see playing simultaneously come nightfall.

Actually, the afternoon is the best because the place is empty so you can just waltz up and get front row to see some cool smaller bands.  I remember being 5 feet form the stage on Stars, Tokyo Ska Parade Orchestra, Japandroids and a few others.

Would go for Aeroplane, Dixon, Laurent Garnier, Bicep, Maceo Plex, Scuba, Guy Gerber, David Squillace and of course Disclosure...

I honestly didn't know Outkast was still big. I remember them being huge back at the beginning of the 21st century but haven't heard much since.

You're making me angry.

I wish people weren't such dopes. Half my friends are buying tickets last minute when they could've done presale, so there's friend-drama about whether we should go weekend one or weekend two. Fuck that I already got my tickets people can take care of themselves. I'm pretty done worrying about how other grown ass people handle their business.

Got tickets to weekend 2.  Looked around for hotels (last time rented a house cause was with a group of 8-10 people) and ffffuuuu the hotels up their prices like crazy over there.  Need to find some other people going and look into renting a house again.  Think after the split it was like $300 for 3 nights which is totally better than the hotels in the area wanting $300 a night.

Going through and making sampler playlists for all 3 lineups I get to Saturday and I'm like WTF WHY DO ALL THESE BANDS SOUND THE SAME

Empire of the Sun, Capital Cities both pretty much just sound like MGMT's first album.  I wonder how many more bands I will find that all sound like MGMT's first album by the time I finish this playlist.

Otherwise I'm being pretty surprised how many solid bands there are this year.

*edit* add Naked and Famous in as well.  It's like there was this wave of everyone trying to sound like ONE SINGLE SOUND it's soooo weird.  It's not bad sounding, just I can't tell these bands apart because they all sound so damn similar on first listen.

Yeah, I dunno which band they sound like (those all sound kind of like M83 too I think, but I haven't listened to M83 for a while), I went through like 150 bands today so it all kind of blurred together, but those bands just sounded like "wait, I thought I already heard this band earlier today"; like they lacked distinctness and just felt like copies of other bands.

After finishing playlists for all 3 days, on first listen, my general impression of the lineup is that Fri is solid balanced lineup of small bands and closers, Sat lacks big closers (muse lol), but instead features an entire day of a great lineup of being able to check out a ton of year 1-3 critically high rated new bands for the pitchfork audience (aka, me and Brandnew), and sunday is so-so with strong closers.

From my experience it becomes really hard to distinguish between bands if you hear a load of music that's in the same genre. When put music together for DJ sets and I go through mountains of music to find a couple new good tunes, it becomes really hard to tell a good from a just average track after a while. This is probably even worse with house music where everthing has similar beats but I imagine it's a similar thing for a certain indie rock sound. Not saying you're wrong about the bands being similar, but listening to them in isolation might give you a better appreciation of their specific sound.

This is some dank shit, brehs.

Banks is my girl. London EP was 2 or 3 on my record of the year list. Saw her at Hollywood Forever Cemetary, going to catch her at Coachella, can't wait for her to blow up this year.

Empire of the Sun and MGMT don't sound anything alike. At all. Unless the only MGMT song you heard was Kids, I guess.

I'll never understand DMB hate. Songs like Lie in our Graves or Don't Drink the Water are so good.

I'll never understand the DMB worship. Songs are fine, but I don't get the love.
