You can only control one character, the others are AI controlled. And they are stupid as shit. So they will die a lot on you.

It's an average length game. Nothing too long, most of the side questing can be done after you beat the game, so theres not much to do aside from some side jobs you are given.

Sounds like FFXIII with the one char to control ugh.
Average length = 20 hours?

Hows the story and setting? As these would be my main reasons for playing.

Definitely not 20hr. I say 40.

Story and setting are ghibli material. Nice colorful environments, very fantasy, nice music. It hit a lot of chords for people who wanted something "classic".

Oscar I was really into jrpgs in the psx days.

FF7,8,9, parasite eve, xenogears, lunar sssc, fft, vandal hearts :)

Also a huuugeee sega fan back in the 16/32 bit era.

This gen one of my fav games of the gen was from japan too, dead rising.

I enjoyed it, in spite of the issues with the battle system... it was definitely the closest to the 'classic' RPG era for me - in terms of visuals, music, sidequesting, overworld. I'd have vastly preferred a turn-based system where you have full control over all the party and not having to grind back up when you evolve a critter.

I loved it.

The demo was terrible, but the actual game is awesome.

Gorgeous game with shallow gameplay that goes on for far too long at a slow pace (if the DS version is anything to go by, and I've heard they have pretty much the same problems).

Level 5 can't design games with depth.  Everything they've done has been extremely shallow, even if sometimes it still works (Layton, Inazuma)

There are better RPGs for the PS3 you likely haven't played. Get Resonance of Fate, Atelier Totori, Nier, Folklore or a Yakuza game instead.

It's ok.

It's a pleasure to look at, even to listen to. It's got a lot of what people say are gone from rpgs today like a world map. The battles are kind of good since they have a semi real time thing going on.

But...

The story really isn't that engrossing. Like the main character is kind of a boring(maybe dumb) kid. Its nothing offensive, but it's just kind of boring if you ask me. Lots of simple simple logic and morals. I mean it is for kids kind of.

The AI kind of sucks. They will die and not use the abilities you want them to. They may take the orbs or the special attack thing you want, which can be annoying.

Dark Cloud 2 was pretty awesome, even if the random dungeons tended to overstay their welcome. The georama + dungeon hacking made the game feel like a spiritual sequel to :bow Actraiser :bow2
