So how does this work anyway? I have the game, what do I have to do to get it to run? There's no way to run the disc version with the patch is there?

You probably need custom firmware. Rip an ISO, apply patch to ISO, then play that off a memstick or maybe even in an emulator (PPSSPP seems to be the best one around).

you should; nowadays its just a patch that takes seconds to install, and it makes everything on your psp run so much faster and smoother

CFW, patch the iso you dump from your UMD. Put that in /iso. Go to XMB->Memory Card. Iso should show up there like a digital title. ?????. PROFIT!

PPSSPP. Avoid that Java one that came out earlier. This one is being worked on, runs on Android (for Andy-kun), iPhone (IIRC), and PC.

It's not "horrible" (outside the RTS battles), but it's about the same quality as FFXIII just in different ways of bad.  It's definitely super overhyped we're never going to play it, so it must be the SAVIOR OF JRPGS and FF'S RETURN TO FORM (which Bravely Default also became when it looked like it wasn't coming over), and it's just another C- SE game with some good points (music is fucking incredible, story is really terribly presented but it's actually a pretty cool story WHEN YOU READ THE DATABASE AFTER THE CREDITS HAVE ROLLED AND YOU ARE SUPER DISAPPOINTED THAT THE STORY WAS NONSENSE [sound like FFXIII?], art is pretty good too) and bad points (battle system is shallow and balance is whack; level design sucks; RTS sucks; story is nonsensical while playing).

Bad game that's still worth playing through just for the soundtrack and to read about the plot afterwards and go "hey, that's actually pretty neat"

Most FF battle systems are shallow. XIII's problem is that there is little exploration, shit pacing (symptom of no towns) , and that the tutorial lasts 25 hours. I highly doubt Type 0 is that bad.

I remember thinking that FFVIII's junction system was pretty complex. I guess it just gets worse and worse with each new game.

Probably because you were a child when you first played it. It's pretty straightforward when you play the game these days, Quistis even offers to carefully explain it to you.

Type 0 has little exploration (there's a world map but there's little to explore, shit pacing (almost no towns, every "town" is just a copy & paste of a single town and there's nothing you can do in towns besides talk to NPCs standing around (think of FFXIII's towns), but yeah the game gets going right away.

Battle system is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay worse than FFXIII and it's super low budget with tons of copy & paste everywhere + shitty 30 min RTS battles that FFXIII didn't have.

Both games are equally mediocre, just in different ways.  They both have some really good stuff, but a lot of bad design choices as well, so they're both pretty meh in the end.

so what's the battle system like then? And why is it shallow.

You wait for the enemy to attack, hit dodge, then hit O to counter instant kill.  The end.  Repeat for 30 hours.

Think Assassin's Creed battle system.

Lol. Sounds like a strike two for me. FFXIII is a strike one. Been waiting on that strike two for FF but I haven't played XIII-2 yet. Let's see if Lightning Returns is a strike two. Strike three means I'm done with FF.

jeremy parish just compared returns to valkyrie profile so if you like that series...

13-2 from what i played was alright. its 13 if they woulda put the traditional rpg stuff in it - towns, exploration, shops, etc. its good but i still have boredom-induced ptsd from 13 so i havent finished 13-2 yet.

It's best just to lump everything in that fabulous nova 7 year ff project together as a failure and give them a shot at the next ff after they've moved past this all.

Unfortunately that doesn't imply good things for versus either, gotta believe in the nomura/nojima combo magic for that one.

i stopped playing 13-2 because for some reason the game would froze at a certain spot but honestly it was no big loss, enemies in FF13 hits hard so it keep you in your toe with all the paradigm switching but in 13-2 you barely have to bother and the encounter rate is so damn high it makes thing a complete chore, and the plot is total nojima non-sense about parallel dimensions and time travel and what-not,and of course almost every enemy is recycled from FF13... some of the location too!

people says "ehy at least it's not as linear as 13" yeah... you get to pick whatever of two location you want to go first and then are forced to do both anyway, there is this part where you go through this tower (the bit where the game froze) and it's just a whole bunch of switch to push here and there while you get pestered by random encounter and i wanted to eat my face off

the side quest are all small stuff too a-la FFX-2 monkey, there is one where you have to rescue some flan monster and it just involve wandering around and finding them and it's so dang unremarkable,if you think they put at least some side activity to do... yeah there is a casino with slot machine

and DLC poker... yep...

I'm not worried about LR. My friend has already played it and it sounds amazing. Plus the demo kicked ass.

Plus it has a sausage fest which is refreshing for FF. Can't wait.
