no, sorry, that's a pretty thin excuse for engaging in that kind of behaviour with a professional contact. that's even supposing the guy *was* drunk for, what, nine hours? the apology is insincere, too, shifting blame onto external factors rather than simply owning up to the mistake. do i know people who have done inappropriate things when drunk? yeah, i do, and shockingly, they didn't get off scot-free for their mistakes. like, could you imagine the consequences at your job if you engaged in a conversation like this with a client? you'd be fired and you'd be lucky if that was all that happened, whether you were drunk or not.

some situations do call for a bit of nuance. i don't honestly feel this is one of them. i can't even fucking imagine telling someone involved with my business that kind of shit, drunk, high, or otherwise. it boggles my mind.

I'm not saying its a good excuse or any excuse at all. I'm saying that blowhard reactionaries aren't really trying to understand where its come from or why its happened. Whether it could have been avoided or better dealt with. Saying there's no excuse and that its really bad behaviour is a given. I don't think I've seen anyone say otherwise. I think the guy deserves whatever he gets, his site deserves to bottom out in credibility and crash completely (although that might affect some perfectly innocent people too..)

I think what Jaffe is saying is that this guy, for some reason - had a moment of weakness, and made unacceptable advances out of total miscalculation -- it doesn't read like predatory malice. We don't really know any context about their prior relationship, if any. Whether you buy into his 'reasons' or believe his apology is insincere: personally speaking, I don't feel that anyone with a normal healthy life, normal self-esteem, self-respect and even the slightest sense of social conduct would act in this manner. So for me, that's quite sad. It's not the developer's fault this guy has found himself in that place, and she shouldn't have to hear that shit, but she has - and she has continued being friendly. And that's to her credit. It speaks well of her that she was capable of doing that, but really, its also one of the reasons this guy persisted and continued to make a twat of himself. To acknowledge that isn't to excuse his behaviour, its simply to raise the question - how should you deal with that behaviour? Yes, you shouldn't have to 'deal' with it in the first place, but supposing you do -- do you say something to stop it or just ride out the whole conversation, screencapping it for later? Obviously, in this instance, she's looking for any and all help to market her game, so I can understand why she didn't just brush this guy off -- but the pitchfork gang who leapt on Jaffe for his comments are just typical of GAF for me. And they absolutely did insinuate he sanctions such behaviour, which he absolutely never did. I don't believe the majority of people there really care. They just love a bandwagon, a gossip, a scandal and someone to hate.
