Might & Magic and Paper Sorcerer look  :lawd

I should get back to finish Legend of Grimrock before starting another one of those though...

I'm getting all of them eventually but I'm going to wait a little for now.

I bought Blackguard and M&M back during the sale, but I couldn't bring myself to play more than a few minutes of the betas to get a feel because playing a beta of a single-player RPG seems kinda dumb. Paper Sorcerer was $5 so I impulse bought that shit.

has anyone else checked out Neo Scavenger?  It's a heavy crafting based rpg which literally throws you into the harsh unforgiving wild with a paper apron on your back.  it's single player so it's not instagrief like Rush but it's a harsh environment.  I've made it to the part of the game which gives you structure exactly once only to die of thirst 3 turns later.

it's fun if you treat it with the same mentality you'd approach a roguelike

Don't pick a goblin in Paper Sorcerer.  You'll only have tears and regret.  :fbm

M&M is pretty awesome, you guys. I made a party of four dudes and then fought some giant spiders in a turn-based battle. :rock

I made a GAF thread about it a year ago and got one reply. Progress on the game stagnated and I lost touch with it, I'll need to check it out again.

MMX looks great. I've really been itching for a full out classic RPG lately. These IOS ones always leave me unsatisfied.

Speaking of Paper Sorcerer, I'm getting kinda bored of it.  The game has some really bland level design.  It usually goes:

-Floor start
-Fight 2-3 enemies
-Find a secret room
-Floor end

Again and again.  I don't know if I'll actually finish it, but I got about 5 hours gameplay for 5 bucks so it's w/e.

I guess I probably should have played that before M&M X, then.

Might & Magic is the bestest. I'm loving it so far.

15 hours in and I'm just barely scratching the surface of Act 2 [out of 4]. And this game is TOUGH, there's no grinding since there's a set amount of loot and a set amount of monsters. Kill a monster and it's gone forever, no respawns, so you gotta go with you've got against the bosses and some of them will straight up wreck you even if you're done everything that you possibly could up to that point. All about strategy, good party composition, and a whole lotta luck. But I'm loving every minute of it.

What's your party? Are you playing on Adventurer difficulty?

Yeah, I'm playing at Adventurer difficulty. I thought it might be a little on the easy side, but it totally isn't at all. Most of the regular enemies aren't too bad, unless I let myself get surrounded, but the bosses really pull out all the stops.

Here's my party composition:

-1 melee expert
-1 melee expert with a dash of magic
-1 bow expert [who was basically worthless until she got some healing spells]
-1 magic expert [by far the most useful member of my party since spells always connect and do much more raw damage than physical attacks, at least in my experience]

I'd almost rather have a party of mages, but they would get roasted in a close-quarters fights due to their low armor rating.

I've restarted twice and I'm currently using:

• Crusader, mostly focused on healing but with the ability to tank if needed. My first two attempts at creating a party featured fragile and exposed healers that died quickly. Now he's protected by a plate mail and a large shield.
• Ranger, using dual daggers and occasionally a bow. Getting multiple hits every turn is a great way to break through the enemies' block attempts before you hit them with your other melee characters.
• Freemage, doing AoE damage. She also has some utility spells for e.g. finding secret rooms.
• Druid, my second healer. He can also dish out a decent amount of magic damage.

Never thought I'd ever see another game this hardcore from a major publisher, that's for sure.
