Monster Hunter 4U WORLDWIDE RELEASE
« on: January 26, 2014, 10:21:37 PM »

spoiler (click to show/hide)
Not technically worldwide since JP gets it late 2014 and the rest of us get it 2015, but still.

Now it just needs a Wii U up-port with save syncing. :rejoice

Calm your tits Himu, Wii U version hasn't been announced. Just wishful thinking.

Also, even if there was a Wii U version, what you're saying still doesn't make any fucking sense.

It makes plenty of sense. I experienced it with MH3U. Practically every single person playing that game in the gaf thread and here was playing it on wii u. You are the sole exception I know because you bought both versions. Not everyone does that. And if MH4U comes out on Wii U on the same day as 4U for 3ds, it's pretty obvious which one most MH fans are going to grab, because remember, MH fans are PLATFORM AGNOSTIC. It just makes sense to get the Wii U version if you don't have a 3ds. This gives me automatically less people to play with. Since 3U 3ds didn't have online play, this is a HUGE fucking deal to me because I want a healthy community to play with.

Plenty of people bought both versions in the MH3U thread, especially those still posting in there.

I would say most people bought the Wii U version because it had online. Whining that people weren't playing the 3DS version makes no sense to me. You play a lot of local MH3U?

But anyways, MH4 for 3DS has online, and so will MH4U on 3DS. If there were a Wii U version, it would probably just use the same servers anyways. Who cares? You're making something I'm hesitant to even classify so low as a "non-issue" into some world-ending betrayal that begs the use of multiple "you cunts" in a single post.

If they ever did announce separate servers for versions, then you'd have a legit reason to be pissed off. As it is, storming into the worldwide announcement thread of an expanded MH4 just comes off as batshit (or should I say, "classic Himu.")

Shut the fuck up, Andrex. And I definitely think the "you cunts" was justifiable for a year delay to play MH4. By the time it comes out in English, it'll have been almost two years since it came out in Japan. But keep on defending, Fandrex.

MH4G won't be out in Japan until this fall. I'd rather play the superior version. :yeshrug

Just means I get to play MH3U for another year. Not even close to bottoming out on content for me. :yeshrug

I'm glad we're getting it at all. You think Frontier G is coming out here? :yeshrug

It doesn't seem like it'll be digital only either, which Capcom could easily have done. Doesn't affect me but I know some people would be pissed. :yeshrug

I also wouldn't be too sure there will be a WiiU version of this.  Nintendo would have to pay Capcom a pretty big sum given how hard the WiiU is flailing around, and the lack of any sign of 4 vanilla hitting the WiiU even in Japan speaks volumes, I think.

I don't think a Wii U up-port of vanilla 4 was ever on the table, and in fact a port of 4G would likely be *targeted at the west, a third of first month sales for MH3U were for the U version and I'd hazard a guess they're at least even now because of the online factor. MH4U 3DS will fare better cause it has online but the west is still console-oriented. I doubt it would be expensive either, but that usually doesn't factor into Capcom's decision making. (Which is why I'm so thankful MH's still keep getting localized.)

I'd say it's 50/50 at this point, the retaining of the "Ultimate" title instead of changing it back to Unite or similar is suspicious at least.

Just a reminder from papa DC on what awaits:

unless MH4 shats the bed unexpectedly it's easily the best game in the series. I really -really- gained from skipping 3U though, as it's on shelves at 1980 yen now, it's still great value and a very good game. But as you say MH4 has so so so much more

and good god -  the battles.... oh my word. Just ... wow. and i'm still low level because -new job-, but those moments when Gerious starts crawling up the walls, drops down and you vault over the small ledge and catch it around the neck and start wailing on it's back.... no TRIANGLE, SQUARE, SQUARE, CIRCLE to start the crazy - all organically happening in game , each fight different - as it's always been but taken to a new level. It's basically everything i wanted from it outside the huge graphics update - if the WiiU version looks the business i may soil myself.

Well if they aren't splitting the base again like with 3U, that's cool. At least 4 has online. 3U not having online absolutely made me angry how I was missing out on content in a game I legally bought.

Actually you're likely to miss out on more content in the Wii U version, guild cards and whatnot (yes you can exchange them online but it's super kludgy compared to StreetPass.)

Actually I'm unsure if there's any content that's Wii U exclusive or even multiplayer exclusive, since there's a solo Tanzia mode. But let's be real, it's impossible to be upset with the amount of content in MH3U no matter which version you buy. You'd have to be like Tenbatsu or something to even come close to touching all of it.

I'm told I would really like this game, but I refuse to play it because, you know, Fandrex

i played monster hunter 3 on wii for around 200 hours and i had a blast,it's not that great played alone but in multi it's awesome,in one scenario you have to fight 2 monster at once and we were playing in 4 so we decided to split 2 people for each monster, after a while the two monster escaped to the same location and we all gathered together again to finish both of them at the same time :lol

some people complain that the game is grindy because you need to repeat several missions to gather the material required for new weapons and/or the xp to unlock the harder missions but it never bothered me because it just translate into playing more multi (also we play PAD so grindy stuff don't scare us anyway :jawalrus)

the controls take a while to master and what weapon you decide to stick with make a huge difference, the first weapon the game throws to you is the big sword which is all about slow-as-fuck charge attack which make it really hard to use so i've seen people trying to use the big sword effectively, dying a lot and getting frustated... i always suggest people to start with the lance as of all the weapon it's the one best suited for defense

some people also complain there is no targetting system,i don't know what the fuck is wrong with them... you are fighting a giant dinosaur on close combat, why the fuck you need one? even worse you often want to target different part of the monster pretty quickly as hitting the tail and head of the monster usualy yield extra loot and damage so it would either translate into a nightmare where you keep switching your target or one where your character get stuck in the monster ass while targetting the head and such

there is also some small survival element that really enchance the game for me,for example as you fight your weapon start to dull so you have to bring wetstones to sharp it,your character also get tired and need to eat... it's not uncommon to tag out of the fight for a moment while your partner keep fighting just so that you can heal and fix your weapon, after a while you start gathering tools like paintballs that keep track of the monster as he escapes and trap which when used to finish the monster translate into more loot and it really feels good when people start to rely on the item you bring

seriously if there was a game that would make me get a 3ds after bravely default it's monster hunter, but it's not coming this year so i can rest at peace :hitler

They added target cam to 3U But it's the best compromise they could have done IMO, makes underwater battles so much easier (not like 4 has them anyways.)

Lets be honest: It's Capcom. There wouldn't be online in the 3DS version anyway. :goty2

(Of course, correct me if I'm wrong. Didn't 3/Tri/whatever for 3DS NOT have online even though it's blindingly obvious it should for the western releases and has been that obvious since the PSP versions?)

Mostly because the camera is fuck awful. That's my major reason for wanting one. Then again I play Action games like Metal Gear Rising to where I really don't have a pot to piss in when it comes to complaining about terrible cameras even with lock-on. :goty

3G in Japan was pretty much a cash grab while they worked on 4, and local multi is the rule of law in Japan (plus as Oscar said in a previous thread, 3DS was still getting online sorted out when it was in development.) When it came out in the west it didn't have online cause, well, it's just a translated version of 3G.

The Weeeooo version was "new" to both regions however so they were able to add it to that.

MH4 3DS has online though so they have finally recognized it's worth including, even in the portable entries in Japan.

The camera's fine. I mean, you move the right analog stick and the camera moves where you want it. It's only a bitch underwater, but thankfully target cam was added. (Pressing L refocuses the camera on the targeted mon', but it doesn't stay focused. Allows for quick reorientation without removing the MH strategy stuff of hacking on different parts.)

Look at that forest density in the bg in the first GIF. I think that's really pretty. Also the colors got pop and have a higher sense of hue contrast and saturation now. Looking real good.

I dunno the art direction seems a little more inconsistent than Tri/G, but on the flipside the game is so colorful now. It's a tradeoff. Areas aren't any larger either from what I heard, which is what I was most hoping for.

Obviously. I just brought them up because they seemed to finally indicate that Capcom might be changing their tune about giving projects the time of day if they don't make back 10x their production cost. I doubt AA5 is going to do much more than cover the cost of localization.
