He was so much cooler at the beginning of DBZ when he was the small, quiet and explosive guy.  Then they turned him into a blubbering bitch

"bu bu bu... Kakarot could do it!"

Pissed me off.

He got cool again in GT, but yeah DBZ most overrated anime evar. Not to say its horrible but wow just wow it gets bad.

Want a good anime, watch Bleach, it's plot makes sense and has some really unexpected twists.

I want to watch Bleach.  It looks really good.  But I haven't had time to get into any anime's.

DBZ sucks mostly because it follows the same story arc over and over and over.  However, I would buy the entire series on DVD in a heartbeat.

How does he become cool in GT?

Well he just kicks ass again in general. As usual in GT something takes over his body and wreaks havoc, blah blah rehashed plot. But the GT series seems better drawn/animated is all.

The announcer guy has an awesome voice.  King Kai was awesome too.

But he is neither of the people you mentioned, PD.

He is the Prince of Saiyans.  He's beautiful.

It just wasnt funny when it needed to be and the show was so poorly written in the Z series that all the moments that should have had some intensity just didnt.
