NaissanceE (indieasfuck, walking simulator, not a game)
« on: February 20, 2014, 08:06:12 PM »
So I discovered this thing thanks to Patrick Fucking Klepek over at Giant Bomb dot com.

So this thing is really interesting. He describes it like Gone Home but I didn't really get that. To me it seems like a (mostly) linear atmospheric experience with some light puzzles and a tone similar to Antichamber and a lesser extent, Portal.

It drops you in an abstract setting and you begin moving through the environment. There's not much attempt at building a story around you, however you are free to interpret what you see and come to your own conclusions. At first it seems you're on some derelict space station but soon the environments get grander and stranger and you may realize you're not really intended to derive any actual conclusion.

The point I'm finding is simply soaking up the amazing design and aesthetic, which it has in spades.

It's a pretty cool thing so far. If you want something cool to look at for awhile, this is def a good choice.

Is this another one of those d33p ph1l0s0phy indie games with no real gameplay that can be finished in under an hour?  If so, count me out.

looks neat! nice graphix! hopefully it's not a video game about how it is a video game, because I'm going to be offended if there is someone who believes that well isn't dry yet. will check it out tomorrow.

You know, I like these walking sim games, but I sort of agree that they're basically games where the creator makes this cool looking environment, but has no idea how to make a game out of it so it's just like a light-game walking experience.

If they took some time and thought up strong gameplay ideas (besides just shooting things in the face), the game's would be much better for them.

Diving into a huge game world and just soaking in the atmosphere and locations is one of the things I like to do the most [see: Bethesada RPGs, other open-world games], so I could see myself really digging a game like this. $20 is a bit too much for me right now, though.

Also, I propose that people who have "cool" ideas but can't structure something with at least as much of a point as Minecraft/Terrarria etc around them start calling their products "wankfests" as opposed to "games" and shit.

Seems like the Assassin Creed: Revelation's block puzzles for Desmond's and Subject 17's sequences more than anything.

But without the block creation/platforming and puzzle gameplay.   :-\ "#Indies."

There is platforming. I may have undercut that element. But if you watch the QL you'll see. You do plenty of jumping around platforms and figuring out where to go. It's not always clear.

It always boggles me how enraged some of you get by these games. They're inconsequential.

Let forum posters and trendy bloggers inspire rage in you, brehs

it was bad when the casual gamers came to take our hobby, but now we have to contend with non-gamers as well? join the war effort, breh. our ranks need to be swole for this two front assault on honest-to-god Real Gaming.
